Purchased the smart car arm rest from Smart Madness last week and received it in the mail yesterday afternoon. Took a few minutes in the evening and installed it. It matches the black leather interior perfectly and was an easy install (slide the seat fully forward and lay the seat back on the steering wheel for easy access to the bottom seat frame to bolt the steel arm rest mount on (two bolts and nylock nuts that are included)...then bolt the arm rest to the the seat rest mount by lining up the arm rest tab to the seat rest mount and tighting up the bolt with the flat washer placed between the arm rest mount and the arm rest pad for a pivot point). Even though this is a "pricey" product, it is a very high quality product...strongly built... with adjustable angle of the arm rest itself. I am very happy with item...for those on the line...go ahead and enjoy it!!!
Thanks Dunerunner...not a "sales person" for the company...just a very satisfied customer of a high quality product. The last two purchases for my wifes' smart have impressed me totally (the purchase before was Area 451's cruise control...again a great product and those that have bought this item will probably agree). Now days, most products seem to be lacking in quality or it might just be my expectations are a bit too high? Again though, thanks!
Hey Nick - as I expressed the concern before when we talked on the phone, "Is this armrest usable by the passenger too or is it primarily for the driver?". My cheapo plastic Canadian one the passenger can use but is flimsy, I may consider that one for Smart#2.
Evening Alan! This is Linda, Nick's wife. It's a good product and adjustable for any angle/height that you may need. I used it within five minutes of install to make a quick run out. It was good. As a passenger you can use it if the driver has hands on the wheel. Its only two or three inches wide so it doesn't take up much space between the driver and passenger. You can also fold it up out of the way if you don't want it down for some reason. It looks good too. We will be in Commando Auto Show in a couple of weeks so you can take a look and try it out for yourself if you would like. Just a quick note also, my employee on line news letter featured me and my Smart in this months edition. It had an article and a short video. Enjoy your smart. See you soon, Linda (and Nick)
Thank you Boris for going the extra mile with me in letting me handle that transaction like we did...and for those interested, I had contacted smartmadness thru their web site and then spoke with Boris about the possibly of mailing them a postal money order instead of using our credit cards as that I wanted to keep this purchase a surprise to my wife (she is always checking out our banking account information almost daily on line) for "her" smart Passion. Was better the buying her flowers that are gone within a week!!! Again thank you Boris and Rachael!!!
Hi Nicholas, I'm new to the Smart scene, just got mine three weeks ago. I'm interested in this armrest you purchased. I've seen one other armrest and even the vendor admits that it has some problems. It makes it harder to buckle the seat belt and it's harder to use the seat recliner lever. Does the same hold true for the unit you purchased? Thanks
I also spoke to Boris and purchased their armrest. I currently have the Canadian one in my Passion Coupe (Car is selling on ebay/marketplace). I am putting this armrest in my new 2009 Cabriolet. It almost looks like the armrests used in Land Rover's or BMW's, strong,, solid and adjustable. Thanks.
Hello Loberg! As per your question, I usually just flip the armrest up to the "stored" position which places the armrest up between the two seat backs and out of the way to provide access to the seatbelt grips nestled between the seat bottoms. I am a large person (OK, let's be truthfull here...can one say, "FAT!" and I really don't care about being "politically correct") so I usually just find the seatbelt grip by "feel". No problem at all and for those worried about the same problem when one is wearing a bulky coat...if you can buckle-up in a "regular" car, no problem in your smart!
