smart cai

heres my latest attempts and the cai issue. i took off some of the webs on the box to make it easier, the insulation came from pegasus. the intake tube is also insulated and then rewraped black.
i dont know how youd go about measureing it. ive got a scan gage and the thing goes up and down so much its hard to tell. its got to help somewhat, i think. there is still the issue of everything eventually getting heat soaked. id like to try 1 of the scoops on the side. maybe theyd send me a fiberglass 1 just for testing purposes, free. maybe?

The IAT from SG has a frequency of 3hz. So it's slow to update the data. I am wondering if the IAT located near the throttle body or towards the airbox area.

In any case, my approach would be to get an aftermarket gauge with temp sensor. Find a coupler that can fit into the intake hose between the airbox and the throttle body. Insert the sensor by means of a 1/8 NPT fitting into the coupler. Then monitor the before and after modification you have done.

Your efforts should help to prevent heat soak, somewhat. But keep in mind, air is not sitting still in that hose. It moves. Then you have to find a way to compute how much does it take to heat air moving at X g/min (somewhat laminar flow), through a hose of cross sectional area A mm^2, and not to forget the material properties (heat transfer rate etc) of the rubber hose. I am guessing it's EPDM rubber.

Now that being said, the testing environment changes as well. So the IAT will change accordingly. Unless you have access to a controlled environment, there is really no absolute quantitative way of testing if indeed your mods do keep the IAT down.

Good effort nonetheless.
