I think I would rather have the spare mounted up front. Rear access to the smart for me is every day. I check fluids once a week and a rear tire mount would be a pain. Perhaps the tow hook up at front could be utilized, along with the driver side to place a tire support. Maybe ugly, but practical.

I agree Karen, it looks better on the back, but on the other hand you don't get that interesting "tug boat" appearance ha ha =)
