Years ago I had an inflatable spare that was not much bigger than the rim with the tire collapsed into the rim. When you got a flat, you mounted the spare and used a can of air to inflate it. Only used it once adnit worked good, it got me to the repair shop but there was not much tread on it so I didn't try to go far. They were replaced with the donut spares.

They had a very similar arrangement on the Audi Allroad except the spare was filled using a compressor. Fortunately, I never had occasion to try it in the years I owned that car.

driving on 4 donut spares? ? ? ?

a few years ago (like 15?)

I was driving to my college and stopped in at a truck stop.

Saw a minivan running on 4 donut spares. Looked so weird, I had to wait around to talk to the driver?

Turns out the 3 drivers worked for one of the tire companies (Goodyear I think?) and were doing a real world road test.

Had another dozen donut spares in the back. Would drive until one failed, record the data, change to a new one and drive some more?
