SFR - Forgive my obvious ignorance of all things turbo... I see your claim of 90% improvement in power and since I'm a numbers guy I had to check those out. The dyno graph you show appears to have HP peaking at 62-63 base, when the engine's listed as 71HP. Is that due to a normal power transfer loss meaning 71 at the engine = 63 at the wheels?
I'm definitely curious as to the MPGs also, as fortimo asked, but then I have this question. The tech manual I've seen linked on the forums seems to say the transmission's only capable of about 80-85 HP, and the clutch is designed to disengage if overloaded; would your stage 2 turbo need some improvements to the transmission?
And then another crazy question... what would this do to the top speed of the car, i.e. in a racing setup? With an extra 40-50 HP, I imagine you could change gear ratios and get 5th gear up to something crazy on a dyno, couldn't you?
The gearbox is rated to 120nm from what I can find, the brabus turbo makes 140 nm. My car is at approx 160nm it's hard on the clutch but it handles it fine. Any more power and I'd need a hd clutch.
It wastes substantially more fuel than a non turbo but isn't driven with economy in mind!
Top speed.....
How fast do you wanna go? I'm limited to 115mph and it gets there pretty quick and does it easily, 125mph would be easy! Bearing in mind I have a factory turbo and the gear ratios are slightly different

Yes.This would be the loss from the engine, through the transmission and to the wheels. However, this car came in with intake and exhaust already on it. A factory car will make even less power at the wheels. I would estimate about 55 WHP in factory trim but I could be off a little.Anyone have any dynos of a factory car that was run on a Dyno Dynamics?

As far as miles per gallon goes........This car should get very good gas mileage when not on boost and when you boost it, the mileage will decrease considerably. The transmission.......We have heard different things on what it can take so at this point,we will be doing alot of tesitng to see what comes up over the next few months. So I dont have an honest answer for you but I can tell you this.........we are known to build up automatics transmissions for other vehicles so we will be doing something for the Samrt as well.We will also be doing builtengines, heads and even camshafts for the Smart down the road.We would like to see a fully built Smart that makes 200WHP!

The top speed is limited right now by the ECU so until the limiter gets removed ,we really dont know what the top speed will be.We will be doing some 0-60 testings and some 1/8th and 1/4 mile testing very soon.
..Tim...thanks for the input..
...will you run, an honest run, of a totally stock car 1/8 and 1/4 test?...then we can use our calculator and compare it to the turbo version time/speed so we can see the improvements...

jetfuel
When we run in the 1/8th and 1/4 mile it will be at a track with a time slip so it will be as honest as possible.
I live just over the hill from Santee (ok, up the 15 freeway a little bit too) and just picked up my '09 451. Black/black on Red, which looks to match that test car as well. I'm sure we can coordinate some side-by-side testing to see what the differences are between bone stock and StgI and StgII when the SFR guys are ready to do the timeslip runs. I'm sorta curious as to what my stock car will do. And it will also let me see what I can do once I'm no longer using this as a daily car in a few years.
Considering the work done on Cameron's M3, this Smart should be awesome when you all are done. His car is incredible and the pics and write-up on your site don't do it justice. The car is SOOOO much more impressive in person...well, if you know e36 M3's and turbos. I'll see about stopping by the shop at some point in the near future to at least introduce myself and see what else you all are working on.
