I have 2 running around Dumont. The bottom one will be out there next weekend.

Here is what they look like..

The cheapest way is an electric reverse. On the first rail I built, I ran a starter on a flywheel with a push button for the reverse. It had a big flywheel, but that could be made smaller by running a jackshaft design. The starter motor never failed and I was pushing a 1000 pound rail with it in the sand, there was a lot more rolling resistance with the paddle tires, and I had no diff. I can push this smart car car with my pinky, it took some work to push the rail so I think the starter will work fine. Worse case senerio I will build my own reverse box with a planetary, I have been working on some designs for one for my rail anyway, so I would just design it to work here too..

On my rails, I run a reverse diff, but the unit is too big for the smart car...

here is the starter/flywheel setup I did 4 years ago..

You can see the reverse diff I use now in the pics I posted a few post up..

The cool thing about the starter is it has a lifetime warranty, so if it ever did mess up, 2 bolts and 2 wires has it replaced for free, although I never needed it.

I'm also seriously considering moving the rear wheels back 3 or 4". if I do a 1 piece rear flare/bumper setup, I can conform it around the new wheelbase.....
What about the Quaife dif. is that what you are using. Or have you ever thought about gear driven right off the out put shaft of the bike motor.
I like the look of the Lorinser wide body kit. But it should be molded into the fenders like you said not just stuck on like Lorinser did.

the quaife diff is really expensive, prob. gonna use something more common and machine it for my purposes.

No problem, I knew all about your problems before you posted about them or called me, I got the run down from Bill when he first contacted me. I'm going all out on this car, front and rear full a-arm suspension, custom wide body kit front and rear with wider side skirts, etc. I'm gonna spend a lot of time on my jigs making sure stuff bolts right in, and as long as there is a market for them i'll more than likely offer them as an addition to my business. I've got some different ideas for routing the drive so I can drop the engine down about 6" lower than yours for a lower center of gravity, and the a-arms instead of the tailing arms you have will give it proper camber change for cornering. The track width will be about 8" wider, front and rear, so it's gonna be a cornering beast.

I'm looking forward to this project, and even more to driving it. The busa is currently being built for it right now, gonna have around 250hp with lots of low and mid torque, maybe I should buy another set of test tires for it, lol..

You should build it with a turbo! maybe a small shot of nos, Just incase someone starts to pull away. Just like my mustang (race car) all motor at 500hp turbo is being fitted to push over 650hp and I have my bottle as well just incase things get interesting

Just doing a built motor for this one, my concern is that too much power will be worthless, the car doesn't have enough weight to put it to the ground....
