The SMART headlights are projectors and the light beam will not go above a certain line. Other headlight housings, non projector the light disperses in every direction and irritating to oncoming cars.

This is true to most cases but keep in mind that the Hella H7 projectors in these factory SMART 451 doesn't have a straight cut off shield. It has a shield shaped more like a V upside down and it shoots out light upwards on each side. This was done intentionally to light up street signs and people on sidewalks. With an HID kit installed, this light is increased 3 times more and depending on where you are, you could be blinding drivers to the left and right of you that are in front of you at a certain distance.

Keep in mind I'm also someone known in the headlight industry that does crazy headlight modifications =) and I agree with everything you just said, I just want others to know that an hid kit inside the SMART is still not exactly ideal has it still allows light to shine upwards or.. "flares" upward on each side but... at least your not blinding anyone directly in front of you

I misspelled the ebay user ID it is intensehid, all you need is the H7 kit. I just received my BreathlessPerformance Exhaust today. I will post my results tomorrow.

It would seem to me........after watching the YouTube video on the first link listed, that it's pretty obvious that there's a LOT more involved in these aftermarket light kits than just getting a kit and putting it on. It seems you could be blinding oncoming drivers! Good information to check out!

Isnt what your talking about valid with any other US DOT spec headlights. Even with with factory HID installations. Outdated and dumb DOT spec would need headlights to aim upwards on the right to light up old style button reflection signs. But with newer refelctive signs, that is no longer needed.
From what I have learned, a projector beam is the cleanest beam in that it has a sharp cutoff and aims the light directly where it needs to be. I have mentioned this before, that people who put these kits in other types of lamp housings produce dangerous amounts of glare because their beam pattern was designed for halogen, not HID lamps.
