Smart MR2 Conversion

Hi all,

Thought you might be interested in our hillclimb car. We have competed on the British hills with it for the last 3 years and over the winter decided to replace the upgraded Brabus with a 2 ltr Toyota MR2. Main reason was the slow gear change and although the Brabus was competitive we fancied a bit of a project and it might even be a world first?

I will post the link on the next post as the website has a restriction on links for new postings

Boggles the mind - quite a bit of custom work there - very nice! Any reason for choosing left hand drive?

Hmmn. I wonder if the California Air Resources Board would let you get away with that conversion?
Perhaps have it smog-checked as the engine-donor vehicle?

Nice, clean install though!

(not terribly familiar with CA's rules regarding engine swaps, but that does look interesting...)

California Bureau of Automotive Repair guidelines on engine swapping (discouraged, but not prohibited if done correctly):

Engine Change Guidelines

By the way, that smart-MR2 conversion is hot.

Glad you like it.

The reason for LHD is better balance. Driver on the left and bulk of the engine/gearbox weight is on the right.

That is a very impressive and interesting Hill Climbing machine. I'm sure it's fun on track days and autocross events too.
I hope to see some on board video in action!

Cheers!

Hey,
Which Mr2 motor is that? Is it the 1ZZ-FED?
