Your work looks awesome. I actually ran across your thread on another forum, and your car was the reason I decided to switch from a GSR conversion to a car engine conversion.
I have not done any research yet (so not even sure if this can happen), but I would like to see if I can fit a Mercedes C230K engine in the back of a 451. The logistics would be harder than the MR2, though, as the C230K engine is mounted in the front of the car.

I think you will find that the C230k is to long to go between the rear wheels and how would you connect the drive shafts. Plus that engine has to be stood upright which means you would have problems getting the seats in. Just a thought
For CA, a MR2 conversion would not be legal since the engine you need to swap in has to be the same year or newer the the chassis. A MR-S swap (as the Toyota 2 seater Vert is called here) would be legit, if you found a motor from the same year as your car. Not a huge upgrade over the Smart motor, but surely enough to make a difference in power/fun on the road as well as better for shifting response.
Nice work on the swap pictured here though. Looks very fun!
Its from a 1991 grey import car which we bought on ebay for salvage. We dont have the same restrictions here in the UK for road use as long as it meets the imissions tests. We have built it for competition and its transported to and from venues on a trailer but by extending the exhaust and fitting the 'cat' it would be road legal.
Holy crap! This is awesome. As an MKII MR2 owner and enthusiast, this opens up a whole world of possibilities.
3SGTE powered MR2 anyone?
Well done!
If you could post some details on what was involved in the swap, that would be great.

Will do, but it will be the weekend before I can get back to you. We are taking the car out for a promotional display/demo to promote grass roots motor sport so will be tied up for a couple of days.
