I'm happy to have 5 smart dealers within a 75 minute drive, but seemingly these mercedes/smart dealers are as of yet not well prepared to handle smartpart requests. getting hold of the them on the phone has been difficult, and then when you ask the parts counterman for the smart car rubber floor mat set, or the tach/clock pods, he has no clue what you're asking for, and apologizes for not being able to look it up without a part number. as i walked away empty handed from one counterman who insisted they did not have the two parts i wanted, i recognized the parts manager approaching, who agreed to let me rummage through their smartparts, and i found the very two parts the previous counterman claimed were not available.
I rang another dealer for the tach/clock pods, and the counterperson said "yes the computer says we have it, it fits all models, its 249"... and since i already knew the price was 249.00, and i know that they fit all models, i figured 'hey, i scored'... and a 40 minute drive later i get to the dealer and the clerk returns from the storeroom with one of those generic little round plastic stick-on clocks, i say "what the hell is this..." -turns out the little round dimestore stick-on clock does actually "fit all models" and the price, just like the counterman said, was 249.... '2 dollars 49'...
fortunately i love driving my smartie, so i enjoyed the drive home. besides, i had a boot full of smartparts from a previous dealer run.
it would be so convenient to be able to call a dealer and just ask them to check a number, instead of having to convince the counterman (with three mechanics waiting on him to get him benzo service parts) to run out to the smart showroom and look at one of the two smart brochures with the pictures of the accessories, and then try and figure out which brochure he's looking at so i could co-ordinate the page and item number of what im looking for with the page and item number he's looking at in the brochure, just so that he can have a clearer idea of what part i'm looking for, that ultimately he has no idea where to find the part number for anyways.
i had a look online but couldnt find a list of part numbers for the accessories that smart offers. i had searched through the forum messages and found a couple smartpart numbers for some bits,
Velour floor mats, LHD (P/Ns A4516800449 & A4516800548)
Jack, wrench (P/N A4545800118)
Fanfare horn (P/N A4515420320)
i think these were posted by a mr oldsmart...
heres a couple that i kept, the invoice lists them as
451-680-02-48 all-weather rubber floormat set
451-810-00-09 roller blind / luggage/parcel cover
but the labels on the items list an A prefixing the part number
maybe someone could post a scan of the list, or a link to it, or we might aggregate into a post a list of the popular parts and accessories and their respective numbers...? it would make parts hunting a lot easier.
Looks like another perfect day...
