spare tire carrier

I checked out the 'smartieparts' site, but can't find the spare tire carrier. Has it been discontinued? I live in the boondocks, and hate to go off without a spare wheel. I think an external spare would look unique to say the least.

There's no spare for the smart because the front and rear tires are different sizes (and there's no room for one either.) You'd have to carry one size or the other and hope the right one went flat. Or try some sort of universal spare that would fit a smart. Maybe one of the current owners has some insight on this.

A front wheel/tire will fit both front and rear. It will work as well as any space saver on the back for a good distance.

Just a guess on my part but the smart lawyers probably aren't willing to make that official, hence the can of tire goop and the 1-800 number for roadside assistance.

I just went to Target yesterday and picked up a very small kit by Slime called of all things SmartSpair. It comes with a bottle of Slime and an air compressor with instructions. I plan to carry this around for some time. On my Expedition I have used Fix-a-Flat with good success, you could probably use that as well.

I don't know about the new 451s, but the older 450s came with a can of slime, goop or whatever, and a 12v compressor. It fit under the passenger floor, next to the battery. Such a kit is now offered as 2007 accessory. It isn't listed as coming with the vehicle by smartUSA.

This is from the print out that resulted from my confirmation
Safety
Hydraulic dual-circuit brake system
Tire repair kit
Top Tether for child restraint system
Panic button on key
esp - electronic stability program with hill start assist
Anti-lock braking system (abs) with electronic brake force distribution
Full-size driver and passenger airbags
Head/Thorax-Side Airbags
Integral safety seats
Seat belts with belt tensioner and belt-force limiter
Drive lock - auto-activation of the central locking when driving

Not totally sure what the kit is but assume that it is the slime and pump

Tire rack is selling a "Conti Comfort Kit" sealer and compressor for 80 bucks perhaps we should take a tip from the balloonists and have a chase vehicle with spare parts etc. follow us around, a Hummer perhaps...

Yup, you're right; I missed it on the smartUSA website. I would presume it would be stored in the same place (under the floor), even though there is plenty of room in the pure/passion coupé tailgates - the cabrió's tailgate is taken up with siderail stowage.

Try Ultraseal and you may eliminate most of your problems. Most of the slime type of products render the tire non repairable and are temporary fixes.
