Sun-Shade Modification

I have had no problems with my sun shade except I am not fornd of sun-roofs in the first place and you still get a little heat through the shade in the day and when I sit up in the seat my hair will brush the shade when it is closed, which bugs me.

I went to my local Hobby Lobby store and bought a sheet of foam-board and cut it to fit the sun-roof and a little extra to slip under the trim on each end. I split the board in half across the width of the car so I could slip each piece in and push it under the trim in the front and rear of the roof. I also cut it wide enough that I had to bow it to fit it on the sides. I then joined the two halfs with alum-tape and I will leave the sun-shade open.

The board is white poster papper on both sides with a foam core so it is insulated, I may cove the inside with fabric or contact paper to match the interior later.

The botom line is no more sun-shade problems and less heat in the cabin.

I have tried posting pictures here without success. If you look at the headliner from inside the car you see a smooth white head-liner with a bright alum stripe across the middle. It only took about 30 min to do the job. It does make the care cooler in our 90+ degree heat. I should also mention I had tint installed on the side and rear windows about a week ago, the tint was Spectrum titanium all metal film.

I ask about tint on the sun roof when I had my windows tinted and they said it would be a bad idea because the top is plastic if they made a mistake during the installation that it is likely that it could not be corrected and that the film could not be removed without damaging the top.

You're right. No to tinting the polycarbonate. There is another thread talking about this.

You cannot tint plastic.

The sun shade is made of plastic. I have not found anyone in my area willing to apply tint to plastic. They say it bubbles up and comes off in days.

Sun shade helper for those whom heads heat up easy

I got a peice of the silver bubble wrap insulation (some front window shades are made of this) and cut it to shape - it slides in easily from the back and folds nicely behind the seats when I want sun.

What about "clear mask" it would go on the out side and they can get it in tinted shades, would both keep it from getting scratched and keep more sun out.... it would be just like smoking head lamps or tail lamps

sun roof shade

This has already been posted elsewhere on a forum but the company
Smart Madness has what they call a sun roof shade for $39.95. It is
cut to Smart car sun roof size and has a number of suction cups to hold
it to the interior of the sun roof. The edges slip under the trim on the car.
I have it and I like it. My hair doesn't brush the sun shade and there is
complete shade inside instead of filtered sun...very nice.
