After paying for "parts" AND the tach, you'd be spending more than the $120 it costs when you do your configuration from the factory........

Did you put one in? Can you share your experience?

Try this:

Ecometer from Auto Meter: Features

The Auto Meter Model 9100 "ecometer" for smart 450 and 451 models, plugs into the OBDII port and is a 2 1/16 inch dia. gauge.

"Customizable to the specific vehicle’s type (compact, full size, crossover/mini-van or truck/SUV.)
Uses proprietary software to calculate fuel economy performance (real time and/or average.)
Display real time fuel economy performance in both a radial energy consumption graph and in a precise, easy-to-read digital format.
Offers 4 different modes that can be easily selected by the driver at the touch of a button.
Instantaneous Fuel Economy, Average Fuel Economy, Digital Tachometer with Instantaneous Fuel Economy, Digital Speedometer with Instantaneous Fuel Economy"

Uses both analog and digital presentation.

I have ordered one of these but it has not yet arrived and the cost to me was $82 including S&H. I have the factory tach and clock and primarily wanted an easily observable fuel economy gauge. Should have more info in a week or so after the unit arrives and will post here.

kinda looking forward to it. Although seeing as it cost you $82, the Scangauge 2 kinda seems like the better option for another ~$70. not only gives you current fuel consumption, but also engine temps, average fuel consumption, reads error codes, and all kinds of other stuff.

and rexxxlo, i believe what he was saying was it's probably more worthwhile to have the factory tach and clock installed (or just the tach, if that's possible) than to buy an aftermarket one that's more than likely require drilling into the dash or something. Not to mention it would match the styling of the Smart perfectly, and not make it look like you're trying to turn it into a street racer or something.

Model Years
451 (Diesel) 2008, 2009
451 (Gas) 2007, 2008, 2009
ForFour (Diesel) 2006 , 2007,2008,2009

From their website; don't think the ForFour info is correct.

Sorry to say. the site for the ecometer does not mention the "450" or the "fortwo".

I wish it were otherwise.

...... well... you're correct that it doesn't mention the "450".... but i don't know what you mean by not mentioning the "fortwo". The Smart ForTwo we have here in the US is the Gas 451.

"Received the ecometer and did...". I am aware that the pictures are not displaying properly. Don't know why at the moment but will attempt to correct the problem.
