Telephone Console??

Hi everybody. I'm really wanting to buy the telephone console to use to mount my ipod. I went to the dealer today to check it out, and I could not for the life of me figure out how exactly it's supposed to attach to the center console. The directions were worthless, and unless the package they had was missing some parts, there didn't seem to be any logical way to attach it. Does anybody have one of these installed, or at least have any idea as to what it's going to take to install it? Thanks a lot!

I saw that in the brochure and it's almost as if the photographer and stylist didn't know how it worked either.. even from the picture it's impossible to understand its application or function.

Join the crowd. I saw one at my dealership and even if I could read the German template. It still wouldn't make any sense. Plus the price is way too high for this thing anyway. I think you have to drill holes in your phone or head to attach it to something to make it work, if I read the instructions correctly.

FWIW, here are some pictures of the console. I can't figure it out either. Can anyone explain how this thing attaches? In particular, what's up with the two rubber-coated posts? And why a circular base mount when it appears the arm isn't supposed to rotate?

The dealers are not even recommending anyone to buy it. The two rubber plugs at the top go into holes in the dash that you have to drill into. Plus you have to drill a hole in the shifter console. This thing is only made for the bluetooth setup that is only available in Europe anyway. You would have to drill holes in the back of a cellphone to attach it to the console anyway. Save your $100 and give me the money instead!!

decent idea, awful execution. i got some tips from Dennis at SPD, which i've copied below.

There is a diagram in the box (or should be), to hold against the lower dash and see where you have to cut a semi circular piece out, there are obviously some connections inside underneath for the arm to plug into. The dash material is pretty tough, I cut out a hole for a switch, with a model knife - it broke two sharp #11 blades.
So you get that far, and plug it into the lower dash, and the backward end is sort of alongside the gearshaft cover.
You have to get a piece of sticky paper and stick it on the side of the gearshaft cover. Draw around the arm end (a circle).
Remove the gear knob - just pulls upwards (do NOT hold the side button if you have that).
Remove the gearshaft cover (first remove a screw hidden under the handbrake lever).
Cut out the hole (dont make it bigger than necessary).
Trial fit that the arm will fit inside your hole.
Replace cover, fit the telephone arm, refit the gearknob.
I haven't done this, Smart Amsterdam (Holland) described how they do it.
When you have finished you have to find a holder for your particular telephone, and screw to the arm.

hmm, even if we had the european bluetooth standard what benefit would this arm provide? If we are drilling holes in the dash and a larger one in the side gear shifting box, does the console plug into the 12V so that we can recharge our phone with the proper adapter? It appears it is just a plastic arm that also needs the proper phone holder. What does it do? I was interested once when I looked at the selection list, especially with CA new hands free cell phone law.
