The law is up to date for Texas. Dealer only did that because they won't go 5% on the back. But law states, if you have both side mirrors, then the back window does not apply and you can go dark. Kind of like if you have a camper on the truck. You don't use your rear view much.

Note that the OEM windows are already slightly tinted. Take this into account...

For anyone who is confused by tint percents -

Lower number is less light transmittance, thus darker tint.

And for more tint detail (way more than I needed)

Window film - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Great info, didn't know it was legal at all to tint the front windows in California.

I have had several work cars, and they get window tinting all around, but the company that does it puts a noticable lighter film on the front drivers and passengers side windows. The back windows are really dark. In the summer it helps a lot!!

I asked one of the managers and he claims that if they tinted it too dark, and the police stopped you with it, you would get fined (and have to remove the film) and the tinting business could get fined by the state.
(don't know if thats true or not)

OTHER TEXAS RULES AND REGULATIONS
• Restricted Colors The tint color(s) of RED are not legal by state law.

• Side Mirrors Dual side mirrors are required if back window is tinted.

• Certificate Requirements Manufacturers of film need to certify the film they sell in the state. Ask your dealer if they are using ceritified film.

Sticker Requirements The sticker to identify legal tinting is required between the film & glass on the driver’s side window.

• Medical Exemption State allows medical exemptions for special tint. For more details about the specific terms of the exemption, consult your state law.
Was told by the workcenter that installed yours that they never had a problem and have never installed the sticker. So, good luck with that. Mother's window tint puts one and that also says "We did it and we warranty it"
