what concerns me about this situation is now there is an upgrade after the supplier has taken the time to better his product and charge more for it ,and the one,s who bought the first products are left out in the cold. But we are not completely left out in the cold ,we have the option to spend more to the same provider to get one that really works.the right thing to do would be to give the customer a coupon or some kind of discount towards the updated system

Dude,

this post may ramble a bit but here goes:

I am sure you all remember the $2000 cell phone. you know, the first ones out there? the guys that had those were on the cutting edge of technology. We all know the Smart has only been out for a few months when we bought the new exhaust. I bought mine because I wanted to. I understood the risks. I was happy to do it because I wanted it BAD. REAL BAD!!!! I didn't want to wait until, well, today to get one, I wanted it last year! I bought it. I have gone through 3 now and am on my fourth. I have broken my CAT off at the flange. I was on the cutting edge. I had my exhaust, I was and am still happy. I now have two suggestions for those that have a totally rigid "first generation" type exhaust.

1-pony up the dough for one of the newer ones that has some kind of flexible connection or a more solidly supported (I am running one right now that is supported off of the transmission, it moves with the motor)

2-install a Torque Link to reduce the amount of engine movement to reduce the stress on the exhaust. (This will also firm up your shifting and help with the sloshy feeling on the corners by reducing the amount the motor swing around under there.)

Please remember that these are my opinions, I take full responsibility for them and am proud of them.

if you have any questions about my opinions please contact me via PM, email or ph 775-544-5455

I love this car, I love what I do with it and to it.

If we continue to bash the people who are developing new stuff for our cars we will drive them out of business.

thanks for letting me ramble.

David

We do feel that our newest V3 version is our best exhaust to date with a flex tube included.
V1 vs V2 version 2 has much more support across the entire exhaust.

By the way we are now selling our version2 reconditioned units for 179.00 We have a very limited supply.

Torque link Arm is a very good idea. We now carry the Torque Link Arm for sale.

I do have to warn you guys... the ones that are planning to get a torque link... I have one, not the same one from MJM makes the one that BPP is selling but one that is just like it with the urethane bushing and... I couldn't keep it on my car for more then 10 minutes before I went back to stock.

It literally turns the car into a ultimate smart 24/7 massaging chair. The whole cabin will vibrate and the car will make your teeth fall out. The stock piece has a rubber that you can move with your hand, this one is literally by any definition pretty darn solid.. as urethane is a hard material.

I would use it if I'm on the track but for everyday use... the vibration will probably rock every bolt off the car and make every teeth in my mouth fall off.

Not to mention the stock piece was designed to have the engine roll under the car if there was an accident from the rear end.

Ideally I would love either myself or someone to design an engine dampener that works side by side with the factory engine mounts.

I just feel compelled to express my experience and the facts with the torque link. Not that I hate it but you definitely don't want a girl in your car or to go out on a date with it.. haha.

But the torque link is cheap, and quick to install AND UNINSTALL...

Cheers!
Larry

Larry, thanks for your post - good to have first hand feedback from someone who's tried the torque link. Another case, IMHO, where the smart engineers knew exactly what they needed to achieve with the stock design.

So now our V1 are really worthless. No wonder I can't sell mine.

My v1 is already landfill. Knowing what I know, I wouldn't have been able to sell it with a clear conscience.

I use the MJM one and am very happy with it.
it is slightly louder than stock but my Daughter and Wife can live with it.

As for the crash portion, I think it will perform the same function as the stock due to the angle that it is mounted. If there was a rear-end collision it would guide the motor down and under.

There are other threads to bash the exhausts on, I think this is a solution.

(the above is only my opinion, it works for me. if it doesn't work for you that is ok)
