last time i checked the gains were pretty impressive for the size motor, I think it brought it up to about 120HP?

but then again the kit they were selling was close to $7,000

Id have to see the car to check out plumbing and what not, but I have a few ideas for a turbo system in the car once i get it.

you'd think a mini cooper stock turbo would work with the 451s engine. they are soo small and maybe if the person ran like...3-5 psi with stock internals everything should maybe be fine?

The MIni cooper turbo would be more than 60% oversized and would not be operating anywhere near efficiency with a 1.0L engine. It would probably work if your are looking for no more than 5-6 lbs of boost. The tough part would be fabricating and mapping an ECU for the totally different operating conditions and additional sensor inputs.

One could purchase the smart 84 or 98 hp engine parts, such as the exhaust manifold, turbo, ECU and intake from an European dealer or junkyard...

I would buy the whole motor, that way you will have every bracket, nut, bolt, wire, ECU, etc... I could see spending the same or more money purchasing all the misc. parts. Shipping is reasonable if you are willing to wait.

You wouldn't have to go to europe, just drive north to Canada. The smart has been there for 6 years. Lots of parts in Canada.
