unique Scangauge II install

I decided I didn't like stuffing the gauge in the cubby to the left of the steering nacelle. The spot I decided I like best is right below the switch panel (hazard, etc.) but the sticky velcro Scangauge provides was not going to work on the fabric covered plastic. I do not want to drill any holes, so here is what I devised:

The silver discs are super strong rare earth magnets stuck on to the gauge with 3M double sided mounting tape. The mates to the magnets are on the other side of the panel, easily accessible by popping the switch panel out. The magnetic force is more than adequate to hold the gauge in position while using the buttons.

If you try this, exercise caution when handling the magnets as they can snap together with a hazardous amount of force. The ones I purchased were packed with separators.

Do you have to use a crowbar to remove it? Seriously, any effect on the display from the magnets?

Nice Install

Thanks for the post. Where does the connector go? Is it on the side of the unit? Do you have a picture of that as well"

The connector has about a 14" run from the ODB II jack to the rear of the unit. Right now I just tucked the excess behind the odb II jack. In theory, you could shorten the cable with an fresh RJ45 and the use of a crimper. There is an available side plug on the unit, but the rear worked better here.

Good point. These could definitely erase a hard disk.

Wonder if there's enough room there to do that with a cb?
