What this car needs is.... (a windshield washer fluid indicator)

...a low windshield/washer fluid level warning light....
...case in point...my wife hit the w/w to clean the mess a dump truck was leaving on her windshield and to her surprise it just left her with almost no visibility at all......tomorrow's initial project on how to...

Yep, the reservoir on the Smart washer fluid is small. Like a few ounces, it seems. I can fit almost a whole gallon in my Grand Am. Everyone should keep theirs topped off weekly, really.

On all my other cars I would rely on my Oil change guys to Fill my Washer fluid. I never run out. But with 10K Oil changes and a small tank, it needs to be put on a check list.

...found the reason why the fluid was used so quickly....it's not going to the rear nozzle, it's spraying somewhere in the aft section of the car and pissing it all over the garage...I serviced it 2/4/09 and today it did not sprayed, went to check pump outlet (you can hear it run but no rear sprayer, front OK) and the tank was empty...
...oh well..time to get to know my smart in a more intimate way..from the rear...

Mine went out (still need to get it fixed) 'cause diluted washer fluid froze in the line. Not sure where you live, but that might have been what did yours in.
Just a heads-up to folks to make sure you're using washer fluid rated for your climate. This is especially true for new buyers -- the dealer might not be expecting you to take it anywhere really cold! Unlike in most cars, the washer reservoir and at least the first part of the line aren't in the engine bay and warmed by airflow that's gone past the engine, so it's more vulnerable to freezing.

Hey 'jet', that may be the problem. I noticed that the washer fluid was FREEZING when it hit my windshield this past week. At the time, it was above zero, so any decent 'winter' washer solvent shouldn't have done that. My guess is that they use the same, regardless of time of year. I'm off to the store today to get some 'winter' washer fluid that will work down to at least zero. On your rear nozzle, maybe it was frozen up and the pressure in the line pushed the hose off, causing it to 'pee on your floor'.

Have fun 'intimately bonding' with your smart......

All smarts have low washer fluid indicators.

Every driver has at least ONE, most have two?

They are located on your face between your nose and your eyebrows?

Open the front access panel (which I admit is really hard) and look

(while you're doing that, check your coolant and brake fluid levels?

I check mine every time I fill up (about twice a month?)
