can you take a photo looking inside towards the K&N? I am wondering how the oem hose is placed in the cylinder since the bottom of the K&N is not open like some aftermarket filters that double the surface by having the inside of the filter coned out ( my term) thanks.

I always stay off your posts, even when you post dyno results about that prove you know very little about cars and performance.

This intake is just as nice if not a little better than yours, and way cheaper!

Stick to making tow hooks and axle tube covers and STAY OFF MY THREADS!!!!

( Just FYI for the innocent by-standers the first e-mail I ever got when I started my company was from this clown and he was very rude, I havent liked him ever since)

Yeah, you just can't please everybody! I am curious, seeing how I just got my smart 3 months ago. I know it isn't a racecar...(racecar spelled backward is still racecar), but I have added the brabus rear valance and header pipe option and a air scoop on the side and found an additional increase in revs and performance. From looking at your pictures, does the intake for your cold air come from the original side air scoop?

Question

Boeschbuilt, Would you please explain why the point of entry for the vent hose is closer to throttle body end of your pipe ?

Matt, another great job. Getting closer to a fully closed version. Could you build something off the original intake duct, than square-off your version, and plug-in to fully close? That would definitely put you into a new league. Just a thought.

Put me on the list of buyers for this version. I’ll take one.

If so, would that air rushing in through the gap cause a high-pitched intake noise that's audible from the passenger compartment?

Looks really nice...

I haven't been thinking of replacing my intake..

but looking at the huge ugly stock air damper whatever it is...

getting rid of that would make the engine compartment look so much cleaner.

what do the engineers do.. find out how much available space they have and then design something to fill it up!

P.S. any links to instructions as to how to remove the stock air intake would be appreciated..

also.. anyone know what that little yellow cap on the top of the tranny is for???

looks like some sort of fitting.. but probably just a dust cover on a breather port or something.

Louis

2008 - screwdriver and then work it out...

2009 - HACKSAW Seriously though, Jet has a pretty detailed instruction for it somewhere around here.

Thanks for all of the comments, I just built this system on a whim last night and really like all of the feedback.

About using another brand filter with an inverted cone in the middle. I like the idea but I kind of want to stick with K&N just because of the name, I dont have the figures but I am sure that it flows more than enough...that being said, I do like the concept of air blowing directly through the top of the filter. What do you guys think, should I use a different and possibly better flowing filter or stick with a K&N because its a very high quality brand?

About sealing off the end of the tube... I am trying to make the best system I can and keep the price low, the way I have it now there is very little welding and no lazer cutting which is why I can do them so cheap. If I seal off around the filter I will need to get a piece lazer cut, then I will have to weld it all the way around, this will turn my $160 dollar set-up into a $185 dollar set-up
I am not sure that would be worth it, when the car is driving down the road the filter will be recieving a constant flow of cool air that rushes around it and out the other side of the open filter housing. The only time it would bennifet from being sealed off is when the car is standing still.

I will have some really good instructions for the 2008 and 2009!

Barney O: I think you might be talking about the vent tube for the motor, I think I have it in just about the same position as stock, see pictures.
