Thanks for the erudite post about air density and gas economy; that does explain BarneyO's first-blush contradiction. So, cold, denser air lessens fuel economy but increases power, right?

And, again not to belabor the point, the OEM vent hose placement is a purposeful, intelligent design, not one that evolved to save a few pennies in hose length, right?

And was probably placed so for better emissions control, right?

Tmack, that is my position but there are others who think its a non issue.
IH8OPEC is spot on without testing it's pretty much a go by your gut feeling. Most CAI's vendors have placed there vent hose as Boeshbuilt stated," I think I have it just about the same position as stock." Hence, it seems that no experimentation has taken place with the exception of my low budget handout. But, I will say,I too have not dynoed
this arrangement but did take into consideration info I learned from the 70's when I did have a Stuska engine dyno cell and tested PVC setups then.Any hot air induced into intake will not be a positive towards the grand scheme of producing additional power.

Good to see you can keep an open mind on the matter, mate.

Hey, just got a brain bubble: You, Jetfuel and this Supmonti chap should get together for an engineering endeavour.

Big Panda can referee.

I hope you didn't take my post as rude since it wasn't meant that way. It was meant to help the less informed/mechanically inclined understand.

To answer your questions; yes and sometimes!

When I worked for GM in the power train development group from 1998 - 2000 (building 26 Milford) we were asked to save as many pennies as possible. To be honest I really don't believe MB operates much differently, but who knows.

Rude? Lord no, I did not think that at all.
I meant what I said in my post; I appreciated your comments.

This is gonna be a hot item! lot's of E-mails and phone calls coming in already

I made a couple changes to the original:
*First, I moved the tab to the bottom for a cleaner appearance.
*Second, I have been hearing reports of air filter shields coming loose and rattling, I think the clamp that holds the air filter on really shouldn't hold the shield on also, It is just asking for problems because the clamps aren't strong enough to hold a fairly heavy shield on. My solution was to just weld the shield directly to the tube, no chance of it ever falling off or rattling then!!

I tried to use a different filter with an open end but I can't find one that will fit...so, I just went with a K&N, it flows more than these little engines will ever need.

I ordered all of the materials last week to go ahead and make 10 of these.
The jig is built, they should be up on my site for sale and shipping by next week.

Price is still only $160.00 plus $15 for S&H

They will all be built on a JIG and will fit like a glove-
