Where is ram air intake?

With WORKS, Breathless, 4smartcar and all of Europe, why is there no enclosed ram air intake for the US 2008 Smart cars? I mean, a fully enclosed system that takes cold air from the driver's side air scoop, runs the air through a K&N air filter, through a MAF sensor and then into the engine?

Something like this:

Breathless Performance is working this and I remember Ernie saying there is a 'heat soak' issue.

Until then, is there a k&n or equivalent filter that goes right into the standard box? I'm not a fan of paper element filters, but when I went to K&N's website, the filter they showed was cylindrical. Any ideas?

I do test pulls up from Truckee over Donner Summit.

I got 4 more miles per hour by adding the K&N filter.

before any mods, top speed was 64mph.
after exhaust and scoop top speed was 72mph.
after adding K&N air filter top speed was 76mph.
