I remember that being posted a couple times before. You can't tint it because the top isn't glass, to it would bubble a lot and ruin the tint.

correct Sun.

I have not tinted mine yet, but I hear 28% is what you can get here in Texas. Not sure how the percent goes. Is lower number darker? Like as in it lets only 28% of the light in? I am looking at ceramic for mine. Was quoted awhile back $400. But I don't think they have looked at a smart yet. They also have a $100 dollar off coupon to help out the economy. So, if the price is right, and it is that much, I will get it done for $300. We shall see.

Had mine tinted about 5 months ago so got to experience the results in the hotter So. Cal months. It was quite effective at reducing through-the-glass heating, though I found it helped a lot to use a vacuum cup attached sun screen on the panoramic roof (from SmartMadness). Don't need the sun screen in the winter months.

My tint was all ceramic and applied as 30% side and rear windows and 10% front window (entire window). And yes, I am fully aware of CA restrictions on front window tinting...the 10% tint is almost unnoticeable but does knock down the UV quite a bit. I have no problem with reduced visibility, day or night. My installer noted that he has never had a customer come back for a ticketed removal of 10% on the front window and that he has done the same 10% coating on the front windows of numerous private vehicles belonging to local law enforcement. The total cost for my install was $375. He's also been in the same location doing business for 14 years.

Yes, it represents the light transmission coming through - for example 5% would be super dark only letting that percent of light in.

RE: windshield tint, I had considered it for another car but when I spoke to one of the best quality installers locally they said they had stopped doing that - as it turns out that the water used to install the tint can seep down into the dash where a lot of wiring/electronics are and ultimately cause problems. They are super careful, work with high end cars, and I am sure that they were very cautious with the installs but over time found it was not worth the risk if any little bit might result in issues.

Hm. Be that as it may, my cabrio's glass is tinted...

I guess I'll check with the dealer I bought it from.

NOPE! My friend in Greenwood has been doing mine for over 10 years. Excellent work, never a problem and he's CHEAP!

Plus he'll do the 20% on the front door glass, which may not be "legal" but looks damn good!

There are many companies selling precut DIY tint kits for the smart. Does anyone know of a source for the kits with CERAMIC tint film?
