Is your new exhaust giving you improved MPG's?

I'm curious. Who is getting better mileage from an exhaust change. I did an El Cheapo muffler shop change and from 200 miles on it so far (I just did it yesterday!) I seem to be getting my best tank ever AND I have been using my A/C - sparingly - but equal to how I normally use it. I'm guessing I'll get around 47-48mpg this tank though the last tank was 46 - the 3 tanks before that have been 41mpg.

The car seems to be running lower RPM's at higher speeds. Flat road and 62mph I used to be 3100rpms, now I'm 2900rpms on the same stretch at 65mph. I've driven the stretch multiple times to account for possible wind variants.

Of course we've heard 2 good reasons to be getting better mileage.

1. The engine can breath finally - stock exhaust acckk

2. You can hear the engine so you know to keep your foot out of the gas pedal.

My DTH is going on tonight, so it will be several days before I can provide a 1st-hand account. However, I spoke to tom124 last week and he indicated that he was seeing an improvement after his DTH upgrade.
From what I have seen so far from others here, I would say you are going to benefit more than just improved mileage alone.

As for the poll, I think you should remove the "too new to tell yet" selection. If someone makes that selection, they won't be able to report back later with their results and have it accurately included in the results...

I'm on my third week, close to a month.

I'd say 1-3mpg more than before. You just don't have to get the car to put as much effort as before, therefore it should use less gas to get the same result.

By the way, the DTH exhaust has quieted down every week and now sounds almost identical to the video. So, increased power, better sound and increased mileage. Unless you don't want your car to be any louder I don't see any disadvantage to any of the exhausts available.

I am really curious about the weight-saving aspect. Has anyone posted the weights across stock, DTH, CES and possibly Evil Twin?

Dunno - but I'm pretty sure my prototype titanium "Smarter" one has them beat in the weigh department (came in at around 2.5 pounds). :-)

As for mileage, I can't say conclusively as we have been driving the car a lot more spiritedly just to hear the new exhaust!

Mileage has improved, but I can't attribute it for certain to the DTH or the fact the engine has been broken in. I'm on another system now.

But, who the heck cares. It sound so darn good!

I think this could be another 400 mile tank if I were to hold out on gassing up. That being said, I have been driving MUCH faster than I usually do and getting better mileage! I'm loving this exhaust and the loudness doesn't bother me. It only reminds me I'm not getting older, just cooler and better looking with age.

I tried modifying the poll - I haven't a clue how to do that but after thinking about it I agree. If you're MODERATOR,(any moderator)please go in and change it if you want.

DTH Exhaust Possible Problems

For the first ten days, my DTH exhaust worked like a charm, and I didn't have a problem with the increased noise. But, recently I've experienced two problems. I am getting a rattling noise near the right rear wheel region. (NO, the exhaust is not coming loose nor was it put on incorrectly - I've had two smart-specialist take a look at it and tear the whole back end out just to find the problem). It only makes the tapping sound during deaccelearation, and it you pull on the parking brake a tad, it disappears. When you accelerate or have to slow down rapidly with brakes, the rattle doesn't happen.

We do know that the noises are not coming from the exhaust, its'fittings, the valence or the brake drum. Right now, we're leaning towards a weight issue, with a drop of 13 lbs., the engine and rear end balance may be affected by the lower exhaust weight which is used to balance the engine. But, we're not positive until I put the factory exhaust back on again, and see if the problem goes away. But, I'm sure open to ideas

Secondly, now that I have 500 miles on the exhaust, after the car heats up and has been driven a while, it appears that the performance boost also drops. Actually, in 4th and 5th, the drop in power is very noticable.

Has anyone else experienced problems with their new exhausts? Or, do you have any idea what I should look for to find the rattling noise?

Thanks for all your help! Bob
