2009 Model?

Will there be a new 2009 model for sure? And if so, would it be smarter to just wait to reserve that model seeing as how if you were to reserver the current one right now you wouldn't get your hands on it till the middle of next year?

I would go test drive one if you already haven't. Then if you really like it reserve it online. I reserved it last month and I will get on the orphan list as soon as I know that I would be getting an 09 orphan. I really don't mind the wait 8 or 9 months rolls around pretty fast. Good luck!

My bet is that there will be a 2009 model and it will mostly be a repeat of the 2008 with a few more options.

Historical experience ** how long did it take smart to go to the 451 model? -aw

and I bet it will be a lot more expensive to make up for the declining value of the dollar, placing it, pricewise, more in parity with Canadian pricing, WITH a similar warranty.

I believe it's actually underpriced today, with the discounted price being written off as Marketing expense: There is no better exposure than seeing it on the street and having real owners (us) do the selling for them. Once smartamerica feels a need to utilize other, more traditional forms of advertising, then the cars should reflect real world pricing...or at least...real world in comparision to our neighbors to the north.

I ordered one on 03/08/08 and I suspect that I will end up with an 09 model at an 09 price?

BRABUS for 2009?

I wouldn't be surprised if smart introduces the BRABUS in their 2009 line-up.

I got mine last week and I am tempted to reserve another one. Maybe just for the improvements and I should be able to sell my current one at a decent price.

It cannot hurt to reserve another one.

It only costs the loss of interest on $99 to get in the game for the 09's.

I decided to get out ahead of the crush back in Jan with a 1470 reservation and I am certain that most folks who reserved in late Nov early Dec are not going to see a 08 model just based on the 8-10 months to delivery schedule.

I suspect the model year change over will be Oct~Nov 08.

I suspect no real changes except colors.
NO CDI, Maybe MHD, No electric, no turbo charged, Maybe a Brabus but more then likely a Panske special edition instead of Brabus, maybe some minor color variations

Most certainly a steep MSRP jump unless the FED manages to change the decreasing Dollar to Euro devaluation of currency.

Even if we gain some ground with the dollar.. there is always the historical 3%~5% increase in MSRP just from inflation or other cost of manufacturing increases.

I expect all the MSRPs to jump between $500 and $1200.

I do not see them offering 3/36 warranty as this would totally piss off all 08 owners.

In reading the article on the Geneva show it looks like a navigation system is in the cards for 2009 and probably a dealer installed version for existing 2008's as well. I like the new blue. Wish they offered a new red.
