5 Beeps? (upon turning ignition off) - Smart Car of America Forums : Smart Car Forum

Hi all,

I have an issue with my Smart Pure may be you can help me with. The car is a little over a year old now and coming up in 15K. The only option I have is AC.

Ever since I have had this car when I turn the ignition off the car beeps 5 times. It is very annoying! It does not matter if the key is left in the ignition or removed. When I shut down the car it always beeps 5 times. Turn the car off wait 2 seconds and then the beeping starts.

I have read other threads regarding beeps but those seem to be related to a car alarm on the vehicles.

Does anyone know if this is normal and is there a way to make this stop?

Take the car to your dealer in Sacramento and have them look it over. I believe it is Niello smart Center on Arden Way. Good excuse to look at new smarts, have a cup of coffee and get a car wash!!

On the way back stop at Manderes and have a burger and a beer!!

You are removing the key from the ignition too quickly. Turn the car off, wait a second or two then remove the key.

I believe he mentioned that "It does not matter if the key is left in the ignition or removed."

I have the pure but have not experience that problem. My pure does not have AC.

Try turning off everything prior to key-off.

Do you have a habit of opening the door before you turn the car off? I notice on my car if I open the door before removing the key it will beep at me.

Thanks for the reply's. I have tried all of these things but still have the problem. If I just turn the key on and off with out starting the car I get the same 5 beeps.

I guess it is off to the dealer.

When you lock the car, are you getting the three flashes?
The reason I ask is that it may be that the car is not fully closed; i.e. the rear tailgate latched on only one side... Or a bad contact on the tailgate?
Just a thought.

I played around with my Pure (with AC) and I couldn't get it to beep 5 times after turning the key off. I tried with lights on, doors opened, seatbelt on/off etc but it never beeped. Maybe something with the 10k service?? just a guess. I'd say it is time to checkout the dealer, or at least give them a call.
