Just bought an 08 Pure...neat car, bare bones, can AC be added, dealer says no, must come from the factory !! Anyone have any thoughts as to aftermarket install ?

You can get A/C from the dealer; I don't know why yours won't install it. The problem is that it's much more expensive when it's added by the dealer than installed at the factory.
I have a pure & wan't planning to get A/C, but an orphan became available that already had it, so I took it. I'm glad I did. It makes a big difference on the defrost in winter. The fortwo is a small enclosure which can fog up quickly & the defroster by itself has a hard time clearing it.
We have had very few PUREs WITHOUT AC come through our showroom
(why would anyone order a car without AC?)
Our dealer mechanic WILL NOT do an AC install.
He states that it involves removing the entire motor/trans/drive axle and then rebuilding from the ground up?
I would suggest purchasing another smart that has AC already?

If I had ordered one instead of getting an orphan, I'd have skipped the AC and added heated seats instead, but I bought my Smart to be my winter beater.
My Pure has no AC but I am use to it not having AC. I had my previous vehicle for about 12 years and it did not have AC either. I would like to add electric windows but that would be in the future. I plan to drive my little car for quite awhile.
