Adopted an 08 orphan in East Texas

Ok, not the EXACT definition of an orphan, but it is close.

I bought an 08 red/silver (really safety orange right?) passion with 325 miles on it. It was sold new in November with 10 miles on it. It was traded in at the same dealer with 74 miles (!!!) on it. It appears it went thru a few dealers. I bought it from a consignment lot, but the guy that owns the lot owned the car. I was wondering if the original owner won it in a raffle or something? *shrug* I had to fill it up (it said there was a quarter tank, but I put in nearly 8 gallons)...I am thinking this is the 3rd, or quite possibly the 2nd tank of gas this car has seen. I saw the guys names that was the original owner and have found a phone number for him on the net. Is it creepy to give him a call?


The car has the option smart radio10. I wish the aux input was next to the power outlet, or, better yet, have an additional power outlet int he glove box.

The seats are leather (or are they pleather?). It seems like they sit higher than the cloth seats (more padding?). I am 6'6" so I need the head room.

My wife will like the heated seats.

I didn't like the tranny in a couple other cars I drove, but if I treat it like a manual (stay in manual mode and lift a bit on shifts it works ok). I live in a hilly area and it doesn't look like I will get to 5th gear much (fastest I can go here is 60 and that stretch is at most 2 miles).

The suspension is stiffer than I would have imagined it being. Any chance the dealership forget to take out some shipping blocks?

I will be using it as a daily driver and run around town car.

Nice added bonus- my butt dyno will be recalibrate so my race car will seem extra fast!

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the smart. There is a free upgrade for transmission on 08 model (software) that make them run better. I would make sure that your 08 has had all the updates done to it by smart center. There was a battery update, vin tag update, and the software update for transmission to make it run better for the 08 model (not all 08 get the battery or vin).

Thanks I have read about those. I was thinking that the car runs well so if they haven't been done it isn't a must do immediately. The closest dealer to me is 2.5 hours away. I was thinking that the car was sold in Nov that maybe the updates were already done? But if those updates came after that date o am pretty sure theg haven't been.

You can always call the nearest smart center and give them your vin number and they can tell you what is due on the car (free updates etc.) or if they had already been completed.
