Adopting my baby today

Unless the dealer has sold both red/black cabriolet orphans that he had in stock 18 hours ago, I'm going to get my smart today!

She already has a name-- Ruby.

If you see us tooling around Austin, TX, honk and wave!

I got her, and here's a picture to prove it.

She's sitting in my driveway behind my '89 Dakota Convertible, and the pair of them together don't obstruct the sidewalk.

I'm officially in love.

Congrats. I still can't get over how high up these are, my other sits you about a foot lower. In that pic, it looks like you'll be as high up as in your truck.

The truck is on the low side for a pick-up, but you're right-- I really can't tell much difference in height between the two. It's one of the reasons I like the smart so much. I've spent the last 10 years mostly driving an Explorer (the pickup in the picture is really a toy that I keep because it's an oddity-- a factory convertible) and sitting on the ground in a little econobox makes me very nervous. But with Ruby, I feel like I can see everything because I'm a little off the road.

I have a question for anyone that went on the Orphan list.

About how long did you wait?

Im on the reservation list and my delivery date really isnt that far off (october 2009 - december 2009) but im really anxious to get one sooner so i was thinking about being on both lists and seeing which car comes first and taking that one but if its going to take just as long theres no point.
Thanks for the help

I think that I was first offered an orphan back in November or so, but the dealer had added on all kinds of aftermarket stuff, so I passed.

I'd say get on both lists (can you even get on the orphan list if you don't have a reservation?). It shouldn't cost you anything extra. If they offer you an orphan you don't want, you don't have to take it.
