I test drove one of these about a month ago and just fell in love with it. Had been talking with the wife, and was about to resrerve one and also get on the orphan list. My current ride was a 2K7 Pontiac Vibe that I was marginally happy with getting 32-34mpg in. Had some mods planned, and had just installed HID headlights two weekends ago.
Unfortunately, last Tuesday, (two days after putting the the wonderful HID system,) I was involved in a tragic accident. (Tragic for the Vibe anyway, I'm a bit bruised, but fine.) As a result I found myself without a car. The first thing I did was locate another vibe that was almost identical to the one I had lost. But then I started thinking about that Smart car I had driven, and was determined to see if I could locate one.
Knowing that there was the long wait... and the orphan list, I figure I might get lucky with the orphan list... so I called the dealership last Friday, and explained my predicament. After telling the individual that tok me for the test drive what had happened with my Vibe, and begging to see if they could find something for me in the next few weeks, (I had figured I could last maybe a minth in a rental before I didn't have cash for a down payment on another car,) and I would take just about anything, new, used, demo, or even one of the cars they use for test drives. My salesperson informed me that they might be able to make an exception because of the particular predicament I was in, and would see what she could do for me. I thanked her, and continued looking into purchasing the used vibe because I didn't really think much would come of it, but knew that they would do what they could.
Imagine my total suprise when, Monday morning, I get a call from the dealership informing me that they just got one delivered, and the individual who ordered it changed his mind. It had a lot more options, and was a bit more that I had thought I could afford, but they had found a car for me! After much discussion with my wife, and playing around with finances, I was able to work out the financing and get enough put together to get the car. I may be posting a bit early... but when I get off at noon today we are going to pick it up. I'll follow up with some nice pics of it.
P.S. in case anyone is interested, here's some pics of what my Vibe looked like last time I saw it.

I did mention that this was a shoddy cell phone right? Mot Razr V3m... time to upgrade, but all my money went into getting the car.
