Awaiting for follow-up on Brabus

I have been registered since Aug 24, 08. Recently on Oct 23rd converted to Brabus and was accepted. Now awaiting followup contact from SmartUSA or dealer to complete configuration and down payment. Requested Silver/Silver Cabrio. Pretty much assume a delivery late 2009, but no DDE yet. Not sure if contact will be through email or phone.

I would contact your local smart dealer. It is my understanding the dealers have been notified when you will receive your Brabus. So, call them and they should be able to at least tell you the month that your car will arrive. Mine told me April. Mine is a black/black Brabus...

That is all well and good. As soon as we received the congratulatory email (in the spam locker) we contacted the dealer In Bloomfield (home of Penske) and Tom said that they would be in touch later. No explanation of how or when. I am pretty sure the DDE will not be activated until some sort of money changes hands to confirm the order, then a production line number will be assigned from which an estimated date of production can be expected. I have read a lot in the cargo shipping forum about the length of time it takes to ship and process. Right now it seems as though there is an EPA hold up with the location of the emissions sticker in the engine compartment on the newly arriving '09s. They sit on the "docks" awaiting entry. From other forums it seems some have waited over a year from reservation to delivery. Wow!! that is excruciatingly long. I just hope the gas prices hold out that long. The diesel P/U this car replaces gets real expensive to operate, especially for an 11 year old.

Um, you DID pay the $99 right? Thats all the money that needs to be changed. And you get it back.

Ohhh yesss, we put down the $99 back on Aug 24. I am to understand that after several months you should be contacted to configure and officially place your order. This is the time I would expect some sort of commitment money to change hands and papers to sign. From then on it is up to the production scheduling before you would actually receive the car. As stated in their fine print, the dealer may require additional funds upon completion of a purchase agreement. I know the $99 has been transferred to the Brabus request. All I am doing now is standing by waiting for the dealer to contact me informing me of the next step in this seemingly rather complex & lengthy purchase process.

If you paid the $99 for the reservation, you're set... no more money until you take delivery... Some dealers tried to use that fine print thing but a couple of calls to Smart USA has pretty much stopped that crap.

If you just put in your reservation in August I'd be patient... From what I understand they have to space out the Brabus models over time and people who reserved earlier than you will have theirs made first. Your estimate of late 2009 delivery is probably close but it could be earlier. It will happen but due to you're choice to upgrade to the Brabus it will be a little longer than normal.

The next communication would be your Brabus configuration notice... I'm having a hard time telling whether you've done this yet... After that you won't hear anything probably until the dealer calls to tell you the car is approximately 30 days out.

Hi Wdhitch -
I did receive the "accepted" email for the Brabus and all changes are essentially locked in. Sammri earlier stated that he already has his approximate delivery date for his Brabus. So, should I call the dealer again?

You can but I'll go back to the fact that you placed your reservation in August... I'd wait till at least February or March before I start to worry... DDE's are only reliable on the day you take delivery.

My husband, John, received notification that his Brabus will arrive in DFW on January 20th. We were both surprised it was so soon. Can't wait to be a 2-smart family!

By all means, call the dealer and see if they have their update sheet showing when the dealer will be getting their allocation of Brabus cars. My dealer had my name specifically shown for the Brabus that I ordered in hand which the dealer had received from smart. The dealer looked up my name and it showed an April delivery of my Black/Black Cabrio Brabus... Hope this helps.
