no, but I have found myself exceeding the posted speed limit at times without realizing it. Cruise control will help avoid those tickets....

Agreed. But that's not what cruise control is for; it's for comfort and convenience (and dodging the occasional speeding ticket)...

Cruise Control can easly pay for itself in speeding tickets depending on where you drive.

If you looking for the best MPG from your gas, around these parts you can find premium with out the standard 10% ethenol, this can gain you a few % points in MPG. but some gas stations here charge an extra 10 cents over the other premium and others don't.
Pays to shop around and know your gas stations.

Accidentely put 6.5 gallons of 87 in last week and noticed absolutely NO difference in performance, no knocks, nothing. I'm sure the EFI adjusted everything and I plan on going back to premium as soon as I get down a few bars. Lots of scare threads on using 87 over the past year or so...

I don't recall anyone complaining about reduced mileage, reduced performance, or knocking with low-test fuels.

The compression ratio in the current engine is only 10:1 versus the 11.4:1 (I'm pulling these from memory) in the (earlier?) European versions so the need for high test fuel is less dire but still solely recommended by the manufacturer.

The only discussions I recall are the ones preaching doom and gloom because of the manufacturer's recommendation without any empirical evidence to back up their concerns.

Don't worry. Be happy.

I've put 87 in before as an experiment. Your fuel mileage will be lower, but not much. Maybe 2-4 mpg. If you work the engine hard it will get hotter than if you use 91 or better octane, because the computer will change the timing to prevent pre-ignition. Which is also why the mpgs are lower.
IMHO if you are just driving around town and not pushing the 1000cc engine too hard 87 is fine. Any other driving especially with AC use, should have 91 or better.

I've always put 93 octane in my car as that is all I've ever found available.
