Brabus driver from Michigan

Andrew here. I took delivery on a 2009 smart fortwo brabus last week.

I'm 21, work for Discount Tire, and go to school at Rochester College majoring in Mass Communication/Broadcasting. I also drive a 2003 Yamaha R6.

I love my smart but I am a little worried. Seems like people have a laundry list of problems with them. Luckily I am quite mechanically inclined so hopefully I'll be alright.

Welcome to the forum! A few of us have had some minor difficulties, but at least in my case, no powertrain issues over the last 25K miles - just an AC issue and a ventilation fan problem.

If you're interested in tracking and sharing your gas mileage, we always need a few more smart owners on Fuelly.com.

Welcome to the forum!

This is a new car, only been out 1 1/2 years, there is bound to be a few problems. I've had a couple, but nothing to get worked up about. Every new model from every manufacture has glitches. Any time you join a forum like this, you are bound to hear about the troubles more than the successes. Comes with the territory.

I have almost 39K on mine in 17 months, and I still love my car. I look for excuses to drive it. I doubt you will find any car that will give you more "smiles per mile."

My advice to you: Enjoy the car for what it is, and the attention it will bring you. Don't sweat the little stuff. If a problem does arise, the search function on this forum can be your friend. Also visit this thread: Mercedes WIS (Workshop Information System) Once your out of warranty, this software can save you lots of money and headaches. It's kind of a clunky program to use, but once you figure it out, it will tell you how to do most repairs.

Also the technical forum here gives a lot of good info on our cars as well.

Happy smarting!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I forgot to add: did a search when I joined about the oncoming traffic high beam flashing issue and I did the "aim the headlights properly" mod yesterday, no more pissing off oncoming traffic at night! w00t. My car also has the infamous smart purge valve tick at idle.

Welcome! And thanks for the heads up, so to speak, about the "aim the headlights properly" adjustment.

Welcome! I have a silver Brabus as well. Only two issues. The first was the AC drain (near the battery) wasn't attached and the bottom of the car filled up with water. I just needed to plug the hose in. Better that then a bad seal on the windshield or the roof.

The second was the Brabus logo on the fuel door falling off when the days got near 100. The dealer sent me a new one and said it is very common.

Otherwise it has been a great car! Fun to mod. I've added a PC, stripes, amplifier and new speakers.

Have fun!
