Close to buying a Passion - Two Dogs are the question!

Hello, all. My first post!

We are not owners yet..........

My wife and I went for a test drive at the Portland, OR SMART center, and brought our two dogs ( 42 lb Springer Spaniels) for a 'test fitting' in the rear. It appears that they will tuck in nicely, however we would need a barrier of some sort that would keep them in the back area. I've tried searching the internet with little luck on what may be available. The guard ideally would not interfere with seat movement and not take up any space in the rear for mounting ( like support posts...etc) Are we going to be able to find anything?

Otherwise, we love the car, the gas mileage, and the thought of owning it!

any he

Welcome, elmosisu,
Too bad the smart original "Net Divider Plus" doesn't have a removable flat cover... Can it be adapted? Someone who has it may answer...

MY answer to that: I modifed the one I had left from my Jeep Compass. It keeps what's suppose to be 'in back', in back.

However, I DID have to purchase an extra cargo hook for the left side of the floor, as there is only one on the right for some reason.

Works well for me

Note: if you DO make this purchase, the kit contains TWO hooks, spacers and bolts, not just one. So if anyone would like a second hook, send me a PM. I have one...NOW!

...try PetSmart (no pun intended) or another pet store...they have different cargo dividers for pets. Hope you find one or you missing out on a great little car.

Thanks,all...

Panda, your Compass setup looks pretty decent! I would consider it.

Any other feedback on this need of ours?

I'd like to keep it from looking 'makeshift' or to be too fiddly.

I think there is a smart specific, dog specific thing that you're looking for. I'll search around a bit...

BTW - Welcome to scoa and I'm sure scp will treat you right!

OK, I found the one I was thinking of - Kley & Partner - City car tools & parts

and the thread - Dog Carrier in Boot Area

Thanks Suze!

The Kley unit would be absolutly perfect if it had some kind of net, or blocking divider to prevent ' creeping' !

The pups love to sneak into the front area!

I've been thinking about the same thing for my fur logs. I'll probably get a press-fit type grate and cut it down to fit. I recall seeing a custom fit on a German site, but not sure it will fit our models.

I just installed a Cargo Divider Plus in a local club member's cabrio yesterday. While the flat part isn't removable, it lays down out of the way quite nicely. Check eBay as those divider pluses go relatively cheap used and they are a small mint at the dealer.

(Panda, I'll buy that spare loop off of you since there wasn't one that came with the divider I got for my local club member. I gave her the one on the right from my own car so I have to replace it)

That's the answer: it can be put out of the way...
But it's about $250 at the Dealer!
