I get the reservation number in your profile thingy and the w/s/r stuff but what is the config 10/20 and 10/8 mean? What is a 451?

The 451 is the manufacturers designation before the car was built, I guess.

The config 10/28 is the date at which that person was sent the magical email to confirm the exact model with the options they wanted. It's the next step to ownership.

True. Its predecessor (2006 and earlier) is the 450 model.

Thank-you "Dave in Texas," I appreciate the reply and info.
IMO, seems a little unsportsman like to put all that stuff on the forum to the people who are enthusiast but haven't heard back from SMART nor got a number etc.

I have a conf. number so I'm not just crying in my beer (so to speak) I am very much looking foward to the arrival of the SMART USAs on our roadways. As a MINI Cooper owner I love talking to other MINI enthusiast on our forum, we go on road trips together and meet for weekly Happy Hours, and a monthly club meeting etc.
I was excited to find this site but am disappointed to see what seems like a ha ha ha aspect of all these numbers listing.
Maybe it is just me....It seems like a happy, sporty car that shouldn't bring about hard feelings...

I think if you had been following the threads over the past few months, the comments would appear in better context. The intent of most of the "negative comments" are to warn new registrants not to get their expectations high regarding an early delivery, and much of the edge to any comment is caused by the authors' own frustration regarding how many additional months they have to wait for their car because they hesitated just a few days to place their reservations.

So far, I've noted just one or two bad apples on this site that will occassionally mount a personal attack, but the overwhelming number of folks on this forum are friendly, informative and very helpful.

PS: You're right about yellow cars. That's what I ordered and it'll be my first yellow car ever.

Actually, The last 4 digits in the confirmation number are the date stamp. Maily it was put there to keep track of how fast SmartUSA is getting around to calling on people. I have mine way down the list back in October 20. Therefore my last 4 digits is 1390. The lowest numbers are in the 1100's. So far the Penske Auto Group has called people with the last four digits up to 1188(I think) and the configuration date just gives an idea as to how long you have to wait in the cue. I don't think anyone intended to bring hard feelings.

BTW, have you taken the Tahlimena Scenic Drive with your group? Do you know Jimmey Finney? '05 Blue with White Stripes?

Welcome, Vicki!

As noted, you are probably seeing it out of context. I know for a fact that it wasn't started maliciously, since I'm the one who started by putting my reservation number in my profile. I won't see my car until probably early 2009! It just makes it easy to keep track of where we are in the grand scheme, and to help those that care to track it closely.

Glad you found us. It is a fun place!

Sorry guys, You are absolutely right. I went back and read the Whole long post and realized I miss interpreted the number thing. It is not an "I have mine on the way, you don't have yours" thing. It is a lets talk and figure out what to expect thing. Thank-you for the replies and for taking the time to set me straight. Special thanks to Dave in Texas for the PMs. According to him I'm number 1200. I'm going out of town for over two weeks on 28 Nov. I hope I don't miss the email! Why do two people say they are #1184 can two people have the same number or does that person have two sign ons?

1184 represents only the date of reservation
Example:
6251811182 Reserved on March 28, at 6:15 and 26 seconds PM. In other words your reservation # is a time stamp. If two people have 1184 it only means they reserved on the same day. Of course no one official told us this. But we have some pretty psyched members of forum that felt a need to decipher this info and thanks to them it all falls in place.
We are at 1189, you still have 10 days of reservations and we are seeing 2-4 reservation days getting the configuration email/week. I would recommend signing into your email account from afar if you can while on the road the week after next just in case they speed up the dates. They are processing 300-350 per week we think.
