Hi ALL,
I got the smart car confirmation number after a year since i reserved mine. But GF couldnt wait for the SMart Car to arrive, we got the Cooper instead. So if anyone in the forum wants to expedite their Smart Car let me know I will transfer the Confirmation to you.
My location is in Phoenixville PA, I was contacted by the Devon Smart Car dealership.
You can email me a t rudramdas@gmail.com
Thanks

If memory serves me correctly, I don't think you can do that.

True,
You CAN NOT! SmartUSA will not let you "sell" or give your reservation to anyone else. That's why they are tied to your driver's license number You'll just have to let it go as an "orphan" (where it becomes property of the dealer) OR, take delivery and sell it!

transfering your smart car to someone else
Your friend who wants the car will have to give you cash for the total amount of the car. No financing. You go in, buy it, register it to yourself, drive it away, and park it. Then after you get the registration, plates, and pink slip (could take up to 3 weeks), go to the DMV and transfer the tile and reg over to him. Sell it to him for a dollar. Everybody happy.
Some dealers are willing to switch the sale to another person if both of you are present at the pick up.

Your reservation is non-transferable. Any attempt to assign or transfer your reservation will result in the cancellation of your reservation and a return of your reservation fee without interest.

Local dealer I use has no problem if you have a "friend" who will take delivery instead of the original reservation holder. "As long as it gets paid for," he said. Saves him from having to bother with an orphan, too.
You should check with your delivery dealer to see about his policy - might be the same.
Big difference between that and assigning or transferring the reservation. . .

I don't think it can be done that way anymore. I believe DMV-- in CA at least-- also considers the second event a "sale", so you're required to list the market value of the vehicle at the time of transaction. The state, obviously, wants tax money from the sale, so a "dollar sale" might be scrutinized by tax folks. There's only a few exceptions, IIRC, ---like a sale/transfer to a relative--that allow you to avoid market value tax.

$1 sale
So, pay the tax collector his 8.25%. Let's say you ordered a passion with no options for $13500. Tax, destination and license fees make it $15500 out the door. You don't pay sales tax on sales tax. So the declared value would be $13500, or $1114 to the Gubernator. It's still less than what you would get reamed for an orphan. Would your friend pay $1114 to avoid waiting for 18 months?
