No reason not to go and drive one at the dealers now. If it too far away for a test ride you probably should leave it alone. Wonderful cars if it is the right thing for you. Just not for everyone. It does what most of us need right out of the box. Some folks just want something else. Have fun on the test drive.

All GOOD advice, especially about the test drive. Take your time, drive it enough to get used to it. When a question pops up, ask it. If the dealer you chose does not want to adequatly demo the car, you probably Don't want to buy from him, after all, he will probably be servicing your car,do you want the same attitude then too? Take your time and read these posts. These are customers speaking from experience! We hope you will join our ranks. GOOD LUCK! Cheerz, SmartChip

The opinions expressed on this forum about smart cars are hardly unbiased. I suggest you find (there are lots of them) several negative reviews of the smart and make note of the aspects the reviewers didn't like and then go for your test drive(s). Decide for yourself whether these negative aspects are true or false and if true whether they are relevant to your needs and expectations.

BTW, I now have a little over 10,000 miles on my 2009 smart and am still very happy with my car. It has come to feel like a normal sized car and every other car feels huge. My only quibbles are the barely adequate A/C, the position (too far away) and thickness of the steering wheel and that the place where I rest my elbow on the side of the driver's door is not very comfortable.

Carlarm - get your AC fixed. You should have NO problem with your A/C, especially in the SF area.

I agree with some of the guys who posted on here, get yourself and your partner to your local Smart dealer and test drive one out to get the feel of how this little car handles and if you can make it worthwhile. You will find that the Smart is nothing like any other car out there.
I am on one year of ownership of a Smart pure and i still love to drive it all over the place. I will say that for me it is not only a good gas saving marvel, it is truly unique to my personality. I am a cartoonist and a graphic design student and the look fits with my creative side to a T. It is also very roomy, and will amaze you every time. I as well advise asking lots of questions and take some time to get to know some of the guys local to you who have one of these Smarts and get to know them well. Aside from all the questions research, and visiting this forum and smart USA - open your mind to the car that challenges the status quo, you will be able to really be prepared to make a well rounded descison on this car with no regrets.

It certainly shouldn't, and if Okiesmrt wants to express any, he should do it somewhere else.

+1 - no genderor even color issues should come into play here. Doesn't matter.

As far as is it a good choice. It'll have it's pros and cons just like anything else in life. No car out there has more charisma than a Smart. Plus its a good car.

Any chance of this thread getting back to the OP's original question? If not, the clock is ticking...
