I am interested in know if anyone has added cruise control to their Smart car? I am hoping to get my Cabrio within the next 30 days.

I asked my Smart dealer about adding cruise control. I was told it can be done by a 3rd party shop but it will void the Smart warranty. I bought the extra 5 yr warranty so I'm really not in a hurry to do that.

I think your dealer is wrong - here's the language in the smart warranty book -

Some Modifications Do Not Void the Warranties But Are Not Covered

Certain changes that you might make to your vehicle do not, by themselves, void the warranties described in this booklet. Examples of some of these changes are:
• installing non-smart USA parts, components, or equipment (such as a non-smartUSA radio or speed control); and
• using special non-smart USA materials or additives...

I was told by my smart dealer that there was a custom shop up the road that could do it, and since they were a "working partner" with that Benz/smart dealership they would not void the warranty. The custom shop cal apparently get (or make?) a matching black stalk for my cabrio as well. They ordered it and it should be in some time in the next two weeks. Can't wait!

Your post needs to have all the "W"s answered...there are a great many of us waiting for a CC solution..

so far their is MisterDot com's Germany unit at about $500 US

451 Cruise in America / Canada are still a month or two from launching their $500+/- unit

so now you find a NY solution...

And apparently so was this mythical cruise module. They (wrongly) assumed they would be able to install an after-market cruise module in the smart, and back peddled quickly once they actually got a look under the lid.

I wound up ordering the MDC unit from SmartieParts and installing it myself. It was quick and easy (once I realized the 451s quirks), and works well. The stalk color is off a little when you hold the original next to it, but it's not at all noticeable once installed.
