Does anyone know (Re: tire and rim)

a place on-line to buy a spare rim and tire 155/60 R15 at a reasonable price? Or would it be better to buy a spare for the back? I feel I need a spare to carry in the motor home when we are towing the Smart car. Bud

The best place to buy an inexpensive spare wheel is your local smart center, where an OEM Pure steel front wheel is roughly $75. For the tire, either Tire Rack or Discount Tire Direct.

You can also check the classifieds to see if there is anyone selling an extra tire/wheel.

Even for a spare, I'd rather spend the extra $10-15 for an alloy like this one
from Tire Rack. Lighter and better looking. $85. Fact is, that's what I've got. I getting real close to selling it to save space.
This one
is a little bit more, say $25 more than the steel wheel.

I bought a steel pure rim to use as a spare. At one point I put it on the car just to go through the exercise and make sure there would be no surprises. Doing so I found the steel rim to be significantly heavier than the alloy one. I now wish I had bought the smart alloy wheel, even at extra cost. Also, if I had done so, when it comes time to replace the tires it would be easy to just buy three new tires and keep one of the worn front wheels as the spare.

I also got one of those wrap-around tire covers with a handle on the top. I'd recommend one of these as well.

Since we're heading in that direction, I'll go ahead and add that the obvioius. You need a jack and a lug wrench with a 15mm socket too. FWIW, since I carry a scissors jack, I also carry a hockey puck to put in the jacking point between the car and the jack.
