I have been informed by my local dealer for the 3rd time, that my Smarty would be here within a few days, and each time ,I get a different date.First I get the "within 30 days notice",then I get the 11/26 DD, then I got a 11/28 date, now they tell me on 11/30, "We are getting 28 delivered, and we hope yours is one of them. I had already set up a loan, with an excellent rate, that rate is no longer good due to the dealers time delays.I've even took off of work based on their info.I've deceided that its best just to walk away and spare my sanity.I have really enjoyed this Forum,I could sense the pride of ownership, the excitment of the local clubs,(mine would have been Mid-Atlantic-Hampton Roads),but it just wasn't meant to be.
I am dealing with the same issue with my dealer. Smart Center VA Beach. The difference is I got angry... I emailed the CEO and withing 3 hours I knew where my car was and was assured it will be in the dealers lot as of Wednesday by Noon (less than 3 days away.)
If you need the information send me a private message. I am sure he would help you as well. They are having issues with the trucking company they have handling the car shipments. Evidently because car sales are so slow they can't fill the trucks with other brands fast enough so our cars just sit there until they do...
I wouldn't give up until you have put up a bit of a fight. The dealer really can't control much until the car hits their lot. Until then you have to take it up with smart USA and don't try the 800 number as they won't help you. You have to contact the HQ to get any real results.
i think the OP is being a bit dramatic under the circumstances.
variance of a few days either way is entirely reasonable IMHO - it's not being flown here on a commercial flight. it's coming overseas on a cargo ship, then into a port to be inspected/cleared, then onto a truck to be driven to who knows where.
the error is in getting all wrapped up in the exact time it will arrive. you need to exercise a bit of flexibility here.
the loan business is BS IMHO, any reasonable bank or credit union should and would renew the terms for another however many days should you not use it provided your credit rating has not substantially changed during that period.
it is just as well the OP abandoned the quest.
if you cannot possibly deal with delivery dates of 11/26 moving to 11/28 moving to 11/30 then you probably shouldn't get the car. you're going to be way too high strung to deal with all the other non-conforming issues of the vehicle itself.

i mean holy moly.
Good point. Mine has jumped weeks. I was due to have the car mid last month. I was able to confirm it was sitting in Baltimore for the last 2+ weeks... A few days is certainly not much - a few weeks on the other hand...
We were due to have ours some time in 2009, a silver/black Passion with leather, and thought it would be several months aways at least. We went to the Seattle area Smart dealer to test drive a car last weekend and the salesman said that it would be at their dealership on Christmas Eve. Wow, what a great present that was. Anyway, still remains to be seen but I hope it happens.
DONT GIVE UP...WORSE CASE SENARIO....re-apply for credit, find out the max amout they will loan and then go find a 08 Pre-owned Smart on Autotrader or Craiglist with low to almost 0 miles. You can have your Smart in just a few days its up to you.
but don't give up. I had my loan set through my credit union for 60 days....the car came in well after it had expired. My CU redid my loan, but 3 hours before I was to pick up the car...they told me, oh, we are only going to cover the MSRP, nothing else...leaving me holding a $3,000 down payment that I did not have. The dealer got me a complete loan, only 1% higher rate and none of the hassle.
