First Tank Of Gas

Filled up until it clicked off, and checked the MPG's. 41mpg's. Driving on that first tank was 85% city stop-n-go, and 15% highway/back country roads. Used equal time manumatic and automatic. I'm impressed! My first Saturn, '93 model 5-speed, averaged 44mpg/hwy.

I'm going to take a long highway run in it this weekend and see what it will do while I'm still breaking it in. Looks promising!

Congrats on the new car!

Sounds like you had an SC1 (wild guess). If it was a SC2, SL2 or SW2 I'm VERY impressed with those numbers! ....not that I'm not impressed if it was a single cam engine.

So what'd you get (Pure? Cabrio? Coupe?)? Add some pics to your gallery when you get the chance.

Careful with the break-in on the HIGHWAY, read the manual on how to break in!!!

Avoid leaving you car on a certian RPM for a long period while breaking in. (ex. 3500rpm for 30 mins)

I think I babied my smart too much the first week. After the second week I took her on a weekend long road trip up in the mountains with 8 grade slopes. She did fine. On the way up I didn't "push" her up the mountains, but I did a little on the way back Have a great time on your highway trip!!

Oh yeah. Welcome to the forum.

It was an SL1...LOL!

We adopted a White/Silver Cabrio. Working on pics as we speak. Just got settled into the hotel. Short trip. Only 120 miles from home.

I was on the Interstate for about 80 of those 120 miles. While on the Interstate I was constantly moving from 60-65mph down to 50-55mph. Never at either end for more than a couple miles. About 80 miles into the trip I got off the Interstate and hit a two-lane country highway with a few hills, etc. Ran that 40 miles, in and out of small towns, ranging from a complete stop at three 4-way stop signs, up to 55mph. Was usually roaming back and forth from 35mph up to 55mph, the same way I did on the Interstate. I've never "floored" it or used the lower gears for deceleration. Car ran fine. I'll gas up when I get back home tomorrow and let everyone know the average for this trip.

I've "broken in" several new cars, and a few Harley's. When I traded my '93 Saturn it had 244,000 miles on it, and was STILL getting 44mpg on the highway, and still had the original clutch. Right now I'm getting 30mpg in the 350Z convertible. Man, it's HARD to get that 30mpg, too. I fight with my right foot the whole time! It keeps trying to find it's way through the floorboard!

Road Trip Results

Total trip was 200 or so miles. Average mpg was 43. Not bad for ranging from 35mph-65mph for the whole trip. Can't wait until it's through breaking in to see what it will really do.
