Hi everyone! I am seriouly thinking about getting the Smart and I appreciate all the info on this site. I went to a dealer in Fairfield, CT yesterday and they didn't have enough staff for a test drive. I will try again. I learned that there is no sale tax in CT for cars with 41+ mpg. A great savings. I also learned that in some towns in CT there is no property tax on a Smart! I am still trying to find out which towns this includes. The dealer mentioned that "orphans" may be available much sooner than reserving, so I am hoping that I can get a Cabrio in blue metallic with comfort package soon.

Welcome. Get on the orphan list at your dealer right away. Don't even think about it. It will be months, and you can always say "no." It should only cost you $99 and you'll get that back either way.

Orphans tend to have dealer installed upgrades, which will cost you, but they serve a need that's for sure. And of course you can always reserve and wait for your perfect smart car. Good luck.

I finally got to test drive! What fun. I reserved and was told about a year and it will be a 2009 model. I put my name on the orphan list and will keep my fingers crossed.

In Houston, it costs $500 to get on the Orphan List...can you believe it?
