As much as I want one, I can't justify that cost for upgrades that I actually don't even like!

I was already told that I will be getting the 2009 model, so I guess I'll look on the bright side and hope that if there are any kinks to be worked out, they will be done before 2009 releases!

Duuude, orphan list!!!!!

(Yes I'm from California...lol)

If anyone is around the Charlotte area and wants it, feel free!
NO THANKS!!! Hey Q_MAN, I went by the dealership last week at lunch after getting an email from them about that car. I think they drove that thing through Pepboys with the crap-magnet on. Well, it is not really that bad, but they did REALLY jack up the price by adding every option they could stick on it.
What turned me off was the fact that it doesn't even have the convenience package, and the still want $24+ for it.

I have to agree, it wasn't that great. They tried to make it close to the convenience package with the leather seats, but that is about it. I didn't mind the custom painted rims to match the paint, but everything else was craptastic.

There is one that came in last night if interesteed. It's reddish/orange and I think the only additional work done was the rims.

The painted wheels are just like the ones that come on the Passion, except painted to match the car. Dude, I bought a set of 16.5x10 Trailready beadlocks for my truck and they were only $1300! I don't mind paying for what I get, but I am not going to let myself get shafted on purpose either. I did really like those custom leather seats though. And if had only been the heat that was missing I might have thought about it a little harder. But without the convenience package, you lose the automatic headlights, exit delay, and the rain-sense wipers. Those are the frills I really wanted.
Anyway, I just talked to Ben down there and he said mine is supposed to be here Thursday! I can't wait!

Well...I'm so disappointed. I actually believed I could buy a SmartCar Pure for the MSRP. Guess that's just another joke, like all the other jokes I hear in today's world. I'm a single working lady and I pay all my own bills and I am close to retirement. When I bought my truck, gasoline was only .98 per gallon and now that I'm trying to replace it with something economical, seems like that's going to be impossible. Better keep my old 2000 model truck because by the time I pay over $20,000 for a rubberband car I could have paid for gasoline for 5 years. Naturally all the dealerships will be like the other dealerships that sell Toyota, Nissan, etc. You won't be able to get what you want and even the minimally equipped car will be so over-priced I will never be able to afford another car. I should have known better than to believe anything will ever change in this country...always dog eat dog and that's all I have to say.

You know CallyForPure, I am a little confused by your post. This is a quote from jwight in a thread I started earlier:

Judging from your username, I assume you are interested in a Pure model. Based on this post plus the cost of the Pure, there is NO way that car would come in at $20k unless you let the dealer add every piece if bling bling they have on the shelf.
Just out of curiosity, can you provide the specs on the car you got this price from?

That's not entirely true. If you reserve, configure and wait for your own smart then you will get it for the base price plus the options you choose. It is the orphans they are adding additional items to jack up the prices. Though if you look at the 2 year 24000 warranty I felt like I HAD to buy an extended warranty just in case. And not ALL the dealerships are putting a bunch of stuff on the orphans. As someone else mentioned there are threads already where the additions are being listed and discussed.

I'm still trying to figure out how you were getting gas for .98 in 2000. The last time I remember gas being .98 was way in the 80's.
