Good morning, All-
I am reserving my SmartCar as soon as I get my stimulus package from our fearless leader. I am stoked. I saw one at Whole Foods yesterday and the people that owned said that they loved it and were getting 50 Mpg. They were both taller than me and said they were comfy even on long trips. I know that it will be a long wait til I get her but very excited. Unfortunately the nearest dealers are in Knoxville (3 hours drive ) or Louisville, KY (2 & 1/2 hours drive) so probably won't get a test drive for a few weeks.
The price is great! We will be able to buy a second car and still get the motorcycles we want....and fit all three in the garage with the boat!!!
Hope you have a wonderful Sunday! Shalom!
Hi and welcome! Long wait ahead of you; if you'd like a car sooner, I'd speak to both dealers about getting on their "orphan" smart waiting list. Also, much as 50 mpg would be nice, most folks on this forum are getting high 30s to low 40s mpg on average.
I am from Middle Tennessee an reserved my a Smartcar early September 2007 and being told that it will be August 2009 before "being invited to use the smart fortwo configurator." Which is the step before being contacted about pickup a car. In Middle Tennessee several people have been able to get orphan Smartcars and it upsets me that reservationist are not given the opportunity to get an orphan first. I have also been told that the dealers are limited to where they can sale orphans, depending on the zip code... I hope this is not true.
I reserved mine on day 1 in March of '07 and picked it up on 1/26/08 in Knoxville. The first one sold and delivered in TN, not that there haven't been a few 450's here first. What I couldn't understand is why Knoxville got the dealer and Nashville didn't. Nashville is much larger than Knoxville and seems like longer commutes. I am inundated by requests about where to buy one and still no Nashville dealer. Maybe the change in tour dates messed up the crowds and the MB dealer didn't see the potential or like me that couldn't wait and went to both Indy and Knoxville to test drive didn't read where people were from. So we here in Middle Tennessee suffer.

If they are getting 50 mpg then they're doing great at hypermiling.
We've been on trips in mine and been comfortable. Take a neck pillow along. ;)
We don't have a boat but if you look in my gallery you'll see the smart in the garage with 3 Harleys and an H3. It's tight but they all fit!
What determines a Smartcar dealer zone? If smart center Knoxville is the only Smartcar dealer in Tennessee, shouldn't their zone cover at least all of Tennessee. I wish smart center dealer Knoxville could have a dealership is Nashville... better yet, Murfreesboro. I have visited smart center Knoxville several times now and enjoyed talking with Kristin and John about the status of my order. Talking with them helps relieve the stress of longing for a Smartcar, also you can to see sit in the Smartcars on display, maybe even drive one... Smartcars are fun to drive.
A smart center is scheduled to open in Nashville late 2008. If you go to the smart home page and look at the dealer map, there is now an arrow pointing to Nashville, but no address listed since it is not open yet.

Tom,
I don't know what map you are looking on, but the dealer map on smartusa.com, Knoxville is the only dealer shown in TN. smart USA on tour
Louisville & Atanta are the next closest dealer.
I heard that there would be a dealer here in Nashville but not until the first half of 2009. This I heard from Kristin @ MB of Knoxville when I took deliverly of my smart early May.
I do hope there will be a dealer here this year. It would be nice not to have to drive to Knoxville for my 10,000 mile service.

Hang in there, we made reservation May 17, 2007 and we have been contacted by Knoxville that our Red w Black Passion will arrive about Aug 10, 2008. The time will go fast. I live in Middle TN and hope the Nashville dealership opens soon.
