Greetings!!

Hello to everyone on this forum!
I'm new to this forum and was amazed how "tight" this community is.
After spending many hours of research and test driving Smart we have decided to get one. This will be our third vehicle between me and my wife (not counting motorcycles).. I think we narrowed it down to convertible (wife wants one : but I'm sceptical regarding reliability of converible top as well as potential leakage problems).... however we are stuck between a used one 2008 model in silver with 4475 miles (manufactured in 02/08) for $13000 and new one. I'm concerned that used one is just about out of warranty and since it was so early im production may have some issues. The car appears to be flawless with exception of small stain on a drivers seat. Previous owner traded it in for a Mini. Any thoughts and/or Ideas would be helpful. Than you.

Welcome to the community.

I don't care for the cabrio, but that's a personal preference about not wanting a convertible regardless of the weather. Also, worth noting...the view out the rear quarters in any smart is poor. In the cabrio it is worse.

The used car should have all the bugs worked out by the previous owner (in theory) and you could go with the extended warranty. I always thought i should have gotten a convertable, but I do like the open air.. My first one was a 2008 Pure and I couldn't be happier with it. I now have a 2009 Pure, same exact model, and I love it too.

Have not heard anything on top leakage on cabrios, you can always add seat covers to take care of the seat stain.

What happened to your first car Jim? I don't believe we heard about that?

Yeah right!!

I doubt we will ever hear what actually happened. Smart did treat me right which is the important part.

Awsome,
now I have to convince my wife to get pure istead of convertible. I do like the stereo in convertible though ...and example we looked at does come with pods included ($120 factory option vs $400+labor at the dealer) and I'm getting my pods regardless on our smart Again, many thanks for everyones input. I believe that hearing form actual owners is by far the best advice anyone could get.

You don't have to jump from a Cabrio to a Pure. THe standard passion is right in the middle.

Keep looking around. Looking at used is not crazy and can take a chunk off the price. Look at the Market place here for current E-Bay listings around the country
You might still find the Radio and posd you want on a used, but not likely on a Pure

..Benjamin...welcome to the asylum...
..check the interest rate for a used smart if you are going that route..I believe they are quite high compared to buying a new car ...smart car interest I think is down to 1.9%...and there's nothing like driving/braking in your very own NEW car..may I suggest a Brabus...LOL
..let us know which way you go and join in the conversation with the rest of the patients here...

jetfuel...need a smart fix...going for a drive..
