Greetings from Portland, Oregon

My wife's car was up for replacement and I was intrigued with the smart so we went for a test drive. She has always dreamed of having a 2 seat convertible sports car. After waiting several days for delivery of just the right model for her from a dealer over 1200 miles away, we picked up her new car this past Friday. Passion Cabriolet - Rally Red on black with the Red design interior. We are both very happy. She's not that much of a car nut or internet geek so I'll be the one on here representing both of us.

While waiting for the car, I have spent way too much time reading everything I could find on the internet. I have a few mods planned including Area 451 cruise, Scanguage II, backup camera, trailer hitch and some chrome bling. I'm sure that over time, there will be much more. I have 2 Harleys and their customizing never ends so why should the smart's? The trailer hitch is to tow the trailer we bought for our Harley Road King. We put over 5,000 miles on that trailer last summer and since you can't really feel it behind the Harley, I suspect that it won't be noticed behind a smart. With the trailer, I should be able to leave the pickup home for all but the largest and heaviest of purchases.

I plan on tracking mileage on the fuelly site and posting pics of the mods that I do. Even though this is supposed to be "her" car, I'm sure I'll be looking for excuses to drive it since it's really a lot of fun.

I'm wondering if I should buy another smart for me and get rid of the pickup??? An 8 foot long light duty flatbed trailer should be able to haul anything I really need the pickup for. And if I keep the loaded weight down under 2,000 lbs, the smart should be able to tow it short distances without any problem. Either that or custom modify a smart into a pickup. Hmmmmm - I'll have to think about that one

I'm happy to be a part of your crazy world here at SCOA!

Pat

Greetings and congrats on the new smart and your research.

Sounds like road trips are up your alley...

Scope out the Nationals event in June and come run the Out-smarting-the Dragon at Tail of the Dragon with us in September. Doing the Dragon in a smart will be just a little different that riding it on your Harley.

Hey, Pat, and...what is your wife's name? I also live in Tigard and haven't seen many of us "smarties" around. My little car is mine and my husband rarely drives it, but I sure do! I love it and take it everywhere. Mine is a Cabriolet, all silver with black trim and a Jack in the Box bobble-head on the antinae. So far I've only seen a yellow/silver one and an all white one around here; I'll start looking for yours too! Hope to see you one of these days!!!

Well I'm the one on here and My wife is the one who drives the car the most. But that doesn't stop me from adding all sorts of mods.

Here was my latest
Advantages of having a Smart Hitch

Already having the Motorcycle trailer is a Big plus, Those things are not cheep, You may need to add a small flag to the back so you will remember its there when backing up.

Enjoy the car, and remember your place, ask the wife before starting any mods. My wife keeps asking me If I'm trying to kill her with that new trailer hitch.

By the way, get that hitch installed, toss that trailer on the back and Join us at Nations. Ask Suzy about going across Country. 1st Annual smart Nationals OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT with REGISTRATION LINK

Sue - My wife is Ann and we live off Barrows road in the Murray/Scholls area. She's just getting used to the idea of waving back at other smarties but she is sure loving the car.

Forest - As long as I throw in some bling along with things like a Scanguage or trailer hitch, she's OK with the mods I have planned. I'll be building my own hitch since I don't want the tail dragger version and the other is WAY too expensive for my liking. I saw your pics but I haven't decided if I want to go to the 2" instead of staying with the smaller 1 1/4" receiver. We both have fairly short legs so a spare tire will fit behind the driver's seat down in the space available for moving the seat further back. I can't think of any reason I would tow anything other the the trailer I already have and it only weighs about 200lb empty (including spare tire).

Sorry, we can't make it to the Nationals this year since we'll be moving my wife's daughter from Georgia to Oregon during that exact time Maybe next year???
