Had to say "no"

to an orphan today when they called me. It was almost 19,000 with all the add on items, and they really weren't things I was interested in anyway. I really just need a second car to drive around town instead of my big SUV, so I'm trying to keep the cost down. It was sad to say no, but my practical side had to take over.

We turned down the first one that was offered from the local dealer due to too many add ons we didn't want. Found it that it was common practice for our dealership. Put our name in with a dealer to south of us, and one month later we picked up our car without any add ons we didn't want. We had to pay a $300 fee to the dealer because we were out of their area. It was worth the drive and the extra month wait. Good luck.

I think dealers caught on that if they can sell us an orphan at a mark up they can then mark up ours when it comes in and sell it to another reservation holder and so on.

calling someone else a liar is a serious accusation. I really don't appreciate it. I am trying to give people some hope around here. I almost lost all of mine (in regards to getting a Smart) and it was people in the forum that told me to hang in there and stay persistent. I did get my orphan AT COST with no add ons.

Again why would I lie about that?

Peace.

I, too, passed on my first orphan offered.

That dealer had added almost $4k worth of useless crap. A straight Passion coupe with only the instrument pods was nearly $21k after taxes, tags, etc. I passed without a second thought.

About a month later, a different dealer offered me basically the same car with a couple of dealer addons (tint & paint/fabric protection) for $600 over cost. . . or nearly $4k less than the first orphan.

Don't get antsy - just relax, take a deep breath and know that it will all happen eventually.

Oh, and good luck~!

I think you may have confused MSRP (cost plus retail markup) with cost, which none of us have any way of knowing, due to such things as "holdbacks" which are typically hundreds of dollars per car
