We picked up our Red/Silver January 31, 2008. Since that time have not seen another smart except at the dealer. Ours was on the first truckload to Houston. We live in Columbus, Tx. and attract considerable attention wherever we go. Get a little tired of dodging "How Much" from some folks. I have a spiel ready for questions. When someone thinks smart is the closed-in Lawnmower from India, I just tell them this was made by Mercedes in Europe. That usually stops the cheap-o questions.
BJ drives to work everyday (16 miles one way) so we are known in two small towns.
We have made several trips on I-10 to Houston etc. and have not had a problem with trucks or the wind. In heavy wind you must remain focused and be ready for a blast from Canada when crossing the Katy prairie.
I do Santa at Christmas so I have heard that people have heard kids saying they saw Santa in that Little Red Car.
Let me know if you spot a sibling. Lets try (for a while to get a picture of both together.
I saw a blue/sliver on I45/Gulf Freeway around Hobby Airport last night 7:15pm on the way to a Rocket game. He was going at the speed limit - 65mph, I zoomed by him before realizing it is
fortwo. I wave at you next time, BTW I am in my Smart yet, hopefully this weekend.
I don't mind the question. It's just curiosity, and people are usually surprised one can be had for as little as $11,600.
My answer is always the same: "They start at $11,600, the mid range is $13,600, and the cabriolet is $16,600."
I try to be fair and include the delivery fee of around $700 in my answer. The response is usually either wow, that's pretty good, or wow, I thought they'd be more like $8,000, to whom I then remind it's "made" by Mercedes.

I brought my yellow/black cabriolet home to Columbia MO from Kansas City and met a sibling in the local grocery store parking lot that same week, also yellow/black but a hardtop passion. We stopped and chatted for a few seconds but then we had traffic behind both of us and went our own ways. I hope I meet up again and can exchange names, etc. I was totally shocked as I thought I was the only one in town...... it's good to find a buddy!
