Greetings, Oxnard! Glad you could join us. As Dunerunner said, you really need to evaluate your needs. For nearly everyone (I am willing to bet), the vast majority of their time behind the wheel is spent either alone, or with one other person, and very little in the way of cargo. That puts the smart in the running for most people that need a commuter/daily driver, and for many, that's really all they need (unless they have the spare cash to buy something larger that hardly gets used).
Is smart for everyone? I think you can get the answer to that just browsing the forums here. It fits just fine into most peoples needs and lives, but there are exceptions. Some find it uncomfortable, some find it too jerky (transmission lag), some don't feel comfortable for (perceived) safety reasons (5-star crash rating), and many other reasons, all of which can apply to any car on the market.
Personally, at 6'2", 285 lbs, I find the car very comfortable. I have also preferred small cars to large land yachts my whole life (with the exception of pickup trucks - I like trucks, though I just traded one in this past summer for my smart). The quirks don't bother me, and now that I am used to them, I barely even notice them.
So give it a shot - you won't win drag races with it, but it has plenty of power to get on the highway, etc. And, IMHO, the gains are worth the losses...
