Hello from PA

Hello. Just put in my second reservation for a smart. First one was back in March of 07 which I canceled in Sept of 07. Couldnt make it to the roadshow for a test drive and didnt want to commit to something I couldnt see. Ended up buying a Yaris which I love so it worked out. Now, with seeing more on the road, decided I want one again as a second car! Did a second test drive this past saturday and it seemed better than the first. This car had 3000 miles on it so I guess its true the engine/transmission improves over time. Still not crazy about the transmission but everyone seems to adapt to it. Dealer had three cars available for immediate sale but they had slapped every possible piece of smart bling on them! Cabrios were $20K and a Passion for $16K. Currently on two orphan lists. Third this weekend when I put money down in Annapolis. They want tag/title money down to be put on the list. Fully refundable. (Advice?) Fingers crossed

Welcome to the forum from the pacific Northwest!! 16K isn't bad for the Passion, depending on what factory options are on the car. If it was a bare bones Passion coupe it is a bit steep. How was it equipped?

It had Lo-Jack, chrome package and appearance package that I know of. Actual window sticker only showed power steering so everything else must be dealer installed. I'd prefer just a base Passion, maybe with power steering. (is there a big difference without ps?) I reserved a white/black Passion with red interior. Wanted the comfort package but cant get it with red interior. No problem, I like basic. My Yaris has manual windows!

While I'm on here, two other questions...

With the 2/24 warranty, does it include roadside assistance and towing? I'm at least 70 miles from a dealer.

PA is now a CARB state and 2008 and newer cars MUST be CARB certified to be registerd in PA. I'll more than likely be buying the smart in MD which isnt a CARB state. For me to title it here, it must say CARB certified or 50 State Legal Emmissions somewhere on the car or on the Certificate of Origin. I'd like to think all smarts would be built to the same emissions standards but I dont like to assume anything! Forgot to look while at the dealer
